It was some distance away, but thanks to his raptor-like eyes, and sensitive hearing, Eric saw and heard what was happening. A bunch of bandits were attacking a young woman. At this, he felt a great deal of anger. Back when he was human he had encountered the aftermath of such scenes, usually with the woman having been raped or murdered.
"Not this time," he said with a growl, and took flight. He might not of been human anymore, but he knew his duty. There was no way that he was going to let these bandits have their way with this woman.
The flight would be a short one, because not only was he a strong and fast flier, the wind was with him due to a thermal he'd caught, meaning he'd get there faster. Of course, due to the way that the wind had been blowing, it was only by chance that he'd heard the woman scream. However, it was more than enough. He had to save the woman.
As he got closer, the wind helped him in another way, as the bandits' horses started to become skittish and fearful, as they could smell him. He then saw the bandits look in his direction, and they started talking fearfully, each of them getting more and more scared to the point that a few of them fled. However, when he landed, there was still several of them so he roared, causing their horses to bolt out from under them, forcing the bandits to run.
As he saw the men run, Eric contemplated as to whether or not he should breath a stream of fire and decided against it. Even if he was a monster now, he couldn't see himself killing defenseless men.
