Chapter #4Saturday morning (1) by: Unknown "You alright there, Jon?" Mom asked gently.
I wanted to nod, but my neck felt unusually stiff. Well, to be precise, my entire body felt terribly stiff. So no, I wasn't alright.
Mom walked towards me before sitting on the edge of my bed and stroking my head comfortingly. "You'll be fine, Jon," She promised. "Give it a day or two, and you'll be as good as new, huh?"
I could tell she was more of trying to reassure herself than me.
"What..." I croaked. "Happened?"
Mom's lower lip trembled, and for the first time, she looked uncertain. "I... don't really know, Jon," she whispered truthfully.
"I remembered... Jamie my surgeon saying he needed to... splice my DNA?" I asked. "Why?"
"I..." Mom hesitated. "Your trip in the forest, wasn't anything ordinary... You know that forest, notorious for its... phenomenas. Apparently, somehow, according to my comprehension, that fall back there you had distorted your DNA transcription site in your system."

"Are you talking about mutations?" I asked curiously.
She shook her head and furrowed her brow. "No Jon, I'm saying the doctors don't really know whats going on. This is my best guess."

I realized she was probably only telling me half the truth. The other half, she was hiding it from me.
I looked her in the eye, only to have her look away.
"Mom!" I said harshly. "Look me into the eye and tell me the full story! What did the doctor say?"
"The doctor said..." She wrung her hands nervously. "The operation failed, Jon. It... failed..." Her voice broke, and tears welled up in her eyes.
Somehow, I couldn't cry. I wanted to, I really did. But my eyes felt barren, as dry as desert, and not a single tear was produced. Somehow, deep within me, it was as though I had known of my fate all along. Known that the operation would fail. Known that...
"Tell me," I whispered bravely. "I promise I'll be strong."
Mom cried all of the sudden, before saying, "The doctors said that you...
