This choice: You show your friends the book • Go Back... You picked up the magic book and showed it to Megan and Harry. Curious, Harry took it and they looked at the pages only to find them all blank. "Um... The pages are empty, John." said Harry, confused.
"What do you mean empty?" you said, surprised.
You touched Harry's and Megan's shoulders to look at it from behind them. Instantly, the pages became filled with letters and pictures, only the words were in a language neither of them could understand and all of the pictures were badly out of focus. Megan let out a low scream as they appeared before her.
"I can read it now." said Megan. "Just as you touched my shoulder."
"Same here." admitted Harry. "It seems as if this book is protected, somehow. Because, even though we can now see the paragraphs and pictures, it's all in some crazy language I've never seen before..."
"...and the pictures are all way out of focus." finished Megan. "I guess this IS a magic book."
You took the book away, the pages becoming blank to them again as you removed your hands from their shoulders, and showed them your book of chaotic science. Your book had the same type of protection, only you knew that was due to special micro sensors, woven into the pages, that detected your power energy.
"It looks like we're friends to a family of witches and a mad scientist." whispered Harry, joking. "Chaotic scientist." you corrected. "I am quite sane."
Then, you made a goofy face, causing Harry and Megan to laugh. Unknown to you, at that moment, Hayley had arrived home from her year away. She was anxious to show mom all that she had learned. She hated to have to leave so suddenly and, through private telephone calls, she had heard that you constantly blamed yourself for her 'disappearance'. She wanted to assure you, without telling her secret, that none of it was your fault.
"Let me show you something, Harry." you said, smiling.
You placed your hand under Harry's and a harmless, tiny bright flame appeared over his own. Harry's eyes widened in both delight and surprise as you then created a flame over your free hand, causing Megan to giggle. It was at that moment that Hayley entered the living room to see the flame in your hands!
"The size of the flame indicates how much power you have." you explained. "Your power is very weak, Harry but we can work on that if you like."
"What about my potential?" asked Megan.
Before you could respond, you spotted Hayley, standing in the door way, looking at you, Harry, and Megan in complete shock. For a moment, you looked at her, surprised. Then, you smiled.
"Hey, Hayley." you said. "Welcome home!"
