Chapter #5

The power of twins.

by: Scifiwizard Retired Author IconMail Icon
Mel began to tear up. "I... I just wanted to show you that... that witches really existed." she said, staring to cry. "Because I... I AM one."

You looked at her shocked, then looked at the water logged living room. There was no denying that she was telling the truth as there was no explanation to prove otherwise. "I think you need a little more practice." you said.

"Please don't tease me, John." begged Mel. "I didn't mean any harm! Please help me, if mom or Hayley find out about this... I... I'll be punished!"

"Well, duh!" you told her. "But how are you going to explain this without telling them you are a witch?"

"Because all of the girls in this family are witches, including mom!" she cried. "Can you imagine what she could do to me as a punishment!?!"

You looked at Mel and knew that she was serious, you also knew that she was very much afraid. You sighed, racking your brain for a solution. Finally, you sighed and said, "I'll take the blame."

"Thanks, John." said Mel. "But only girls can work magic. Mom will never buy your story."

You sighed again then looked at the living room again. The damage was bad and there was no way you and Mel could ever dry it up, let alone repair the damage before anyone noticed. It was a major problem with no easy solution. Then, your mother came into the room and let out a low scream, seeing the wet disaster. She quickly surveyed the damage then turned to find Mel, holding her magic book, standing next to you!

"MEL!" she screamed, angrily.

Mel screamed and, instinctively took your hand. In a flash, the water was all gone and the living room was at is were before Mel cast her spell. You looked around, surprised, as did Mel, then turned to each other before turning to mom who had a similar look on her face. Only hers was of complete shock.

"How did that happen?" you asked, out loud.

Mel, equally as confused, shook her head. "I don't know, unless...."

"I thought you said boys could not work this magic." you told her, catching on.

"Boys can't work magic." said your mother, walking up to you and Mel. "But, because you are twins..."

She placed a gentle hand onto your head then leaned in close. You felt as if she were piercing your very soul with her stare, it made you shiver a little. Finally, she removed her hand and took a step back.

"I was afraid of this." she said, shaking her head.

"What is it?" asked Mel.

Your mom sighed. "You two are mentally and magically connected." she said. "Which means that John has the power of magic as well only he is unable to use it, because he is a boy." she paused. "However, whenever he makes physical contact with you, Mel, his power will channel though you, greatly augmenting your own. I can only imaging the same could happen with the other girls as well."

"Something tells me that isn't a good thing." you said.

Your mother shook her head. "It's not a good thing but it's not really bad, either. You see, the more you channel your power through any of your sisters, the more you will become a girl yourself." she grinned. "On the bright side, you will then be able to use your own power."

You looked at your mother, startled. "But I don't want to be a girl!" you protested.

"It doesn't matter if you are a boy or a girl, John." replied your mother. "It's what's inside you that matters. You are still yourself, inside and you are still my child. My love for you will not change, either way."

She then turned to Mel. "As for you, young lady." she said. "I TOLD you that John was not to be told of our powers until after the party."

Mel began to sob, believing that she was about to be punished but then, you jumped in.

"Don't blame her." you told your mother. "I was my fault. I didn't believe her when she told me she was a witch, she had to defend her honor and teach me otherwise."

You mother smiled. "I'm not going to punish her, John." she said, almost laughing. "But that was a very noble attempt on your part to protect your sister." she tuned back to Mel. "Not a word is to be said about John's power until your birthday party, is that clear?

You and Mel both give their word and your mother nodded.

"If Hayley, or worse, Hannah finds out about this, they may be tempted to try to bring out the girl in you."

You shivered at that and your mother laughed. "We'll discuss this at length later." she said, quietly. "for now, go about your business as if nothing happened here."

With that, she casually walked out of the room, leaving you and Mel alone in the living room to think over the ups and downs of you being a girl or a boy. But then, you hear footfalls quickly leaving the living room. You ran to the doorway but no one was there. Who was spying on you and Mel?

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. Hannah.

2. Hayley.

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
