While I was unconscious, I had a strange dream. I saw myself in the middle of a city, surrounded by a number of vehicles of all types. Their engines purred at me, creating a bizarre but calming scene, I felt safe. When I eventually woke up from the sedative, I heard the beep beep beep of a vitals signs monitor. As my eyes fluttered open, I saw my mom looking at me with a tear stained face. "The entire neighborhood is worried about you, honey." softly, she said. "Somehow, your screams carried nearly a hundred yards in all directions." pausing, she asked, "How are you feeling?"
"I'm tired, I'm hurting, and I'm hungry." wincing, I replied. "What happened to me, mom?"
"The doctors ran more tests than I could count while you were passed out." looking worried, mom replied. "They found a few things out place but its beyond me." she turned to another person in the room. "Dr Hagen..."
Max came into view and sat down on the other side of the bed. "Yes, well we found that your body has been producing a massive amounts of minerals." looking curiously excited, Max said. "You have been getting gall stones, kidney stones, bone spurs..." he paused, seeing me becoming alarmed. "Normally, such an unlikely scenario would kill a grown man within days but your body is somehow making use of this bizarre condition."
"You- You're scaring me, doctor." trembling, I said. "Wha-What are you-you getting at?"
Max sighed. "Your body is taking all those minerals to strengthen your entire body." looking at me, he said. "Right now, your teeth are as hard as titanium steel!"
To say I was shocked would have been an understatement. "Do you know how my voice carried so far?" still fearful, I asked. "Do you have any idea why all the machines in my house went crazy?"
"That is were it gets interesting." his excitement returning. "We have no idea. However I believe it has to do with a tumor we found at the base of your brain."
"A tumor!?" shocked, mom asked. "Can you remove it!?"
Max shook his head. "It's too close to the vital parts of her brain to safely remove." seriously, he replied. "The good news is that I believe it is that tumor that is making all of this happen."
"What makes you think that?" thinking Dr Hagen was mad, I asked. "Have you seen this before?"
"A young man came into this hospital about a week ago." smiling, Max said. "I can not tell you his name but he had grown from five feet and four inches to eight feet and ten inches in less than five minutes!"
"Oh my." stunned, mom said. "Is he still alive?"
Max nodded. "He changed back within an hour of losing consciousness." still smiling, he replied. "The point is, he had the same curious tumor your daughter has within her." he pushed his chair closer, not noticing a camera following his movements. "I was pulled off of the case by his family doctor. I know I am not your family doctor either but I am hoping you and your mother will allow me to study your condition further."
I did not like the idea of being poked and prodded like some science experiment and turned to mom, uncertain who shrugged her shoulders. "We really don't have a family doctor at this time." wincing, she said. "We're waiting for a call back from a Dr Stone to see if he will take Megan on as a new client."
"At least allow me to try to get as many answers as I can before you leave the hospital." pleading, Max said. "I promise I'll be as gentle as I can."
Sighing, I said...
