My name is Aiden Blair; I just turned thirteen the other day. Although I am very strong and athletic, I really had no interest in sports. I guess that was what branded me as a problem child in the eyes of the teachers and some students; I had the talent for sports but not the desire or will. I am more of a book worm than a football player.
I have two little sisters, Farah and Ember who are six year old twins. They are okay as far as sisters go even if they are obsessed with fantasy. Kings, queens, knights of the round table... you get the idea. They were always interested in having me play with them, which I really did not mind. My mother and sisters all had honey blond hair and green eyes where I had light brown hair and hazel eyes. My father vanished a few short days after the twins were born. Mom told us that he had passed away. It hurt a lot, it still does in a way.
My mother, Talya Blair worked from home though I never really understood what it was she did for a living. all she would tell us was that we would learn the family business when we were ready. Little did I know that day would come in the most unexpected way with the most interesting results...
I was helping mom clean her private study with Farah and Ember occasionally helping out when I found a thin, round wooden rod about seven inches long. It was lying behind mom's work desk. Curious, I went down onto my hands and knees to try to get it out. The wooden rod was just barely within reach, I had to stretch my fingers to even get a grip upon it. Eventually, I managed to pull it out and stand back up just as mom entered her study. She immediately saw the rod in my hand and sighed, a bemused look forming upon her face. "Mother told me you'd discover the secret in a surprising way." Softly, she said. "I have to admit, this is certainly a surprise."
"What are you talking about, mom?" Taken aback, I asked.
I then screamed, noticing my voice had raised several octaves. Mom motioned to a mirror on the wall and I turned to receive the shock of my life. There was an attractive teenage girl in my clothes staring back at me! "Mom...."
Mom gently pushed my head so to look me in the eye. "I am a witch, Aiden." Firmly but kindly, she explained. "One of few to be born in this isolated city." She smiled at me. "Now that you have found my magic wand... you are a witch too."
