Chapter #5Lilith Nightshade by: BeeJay My name is Lilith Nightshade. I picked it out myself. It suited me more than Olivia Wallace. Or, to use my stepfather's name, Olivia Hastings.
I've been goth for a couple of years now, and most of the kids have started to at least tolerate me. I sometimes get flak from Cait Spencer and her clique, but that's trickled off since I let it be known I don't give a rip about their opinions. A few teachers still give me the hairy eyeball, though, to the point that Mom actually had to take me to a psychiatrist. The upshot is that I've got documentation saying I'm not crazy or suicidal. It's just that, instead of rainbows, unicorns, and dotting my i's with little hearts, I like black, rats and spiders, and the occasional picnic in a cemetery.
I suppose I can understand why they think I'm messed up. My birth father was a real piece of work. He's ex-military, but his favorite battlefield was our home. Mom finally had enough when I landed in the hospital with a concussion, and got him locked up for a while. He still gets monthly supervised visits, though, and it's after these visits that I usually start talking tattoos with Mom and my stepfather. So far, they've held firm that I can't get one until I'm of legal age.
Don't ask me what my birth father does for a living since he left jail, because he won't tell us. Seriously, he changes the subject every time we ask. All we know so far is, every now and then, he'll mention somebody named Hagen, but he goes right back into super-secret mode as soon as we ask.
So that's most of my life. Sounds pretty normal, for the most part, and I'd agree with you, if it weren't for the day when things got weird, even by goth standards.
It was my first day of high school. I was having this dream, where I'm taking a shower, and Sue Tanner comes in and we start kissing. I've had it before, but this time, I noticed I felt something different behind me.
As I started to wake up, I still felt this difference, and I began to realize that I wasn't sleeping on my mattress. Had I rolled off during the night? I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes, and I saw what had happened.
I had gone to sleep in my bed, but I woke up lying on the ceiling. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
