Chapter #4

Reptilian Servant?

It is one of the most curious creatures you've ever seen.

Of course, you've read plenty about them. Dragonites are similar to dragons, though more human in shape: they walk on two legs instead of four, have two arms as dexterous as a human's, and all the other basic body characteristics. They wear clothes, but little of it - they prefer to remain closer to their dragon side in that regard. They're wild to a point, but some speak the languages of humans and they never cause damage to their wingless relatives.

Noticing you, the young dragonite turns and you are met with the dragon-ish face. The creature is obviously female, as shown through her ample bosom and curvy form (another aspect dragonites share with humans). Dark blue scales cover her back and wings, and a tail lies on the ground that curves around so the tip is near her feet. Covering what needs to be hidden on her body are a couple of azure cloths that look silky smooth, probably provided by the mages. Her wings, until recently folded up, now stretch wide for some reason or other.

The elder who lead you here chuckles.

"She is showing off," he says, amused. "That is the first time since she's been brought here that she has ever displayed her wings." Relying on an old willow staff to support him, the elder makes his way to where the dragonite is standing.

Apart from the manacles the dragonite is left free of restraint, and the chains are quite loose. To be honest, the clamps look quite comfortable. The dragonite looks at the approaching elder with a mix of excitement and curiosity, a confusing combination when displayed across her reptilian face. As soon as the elder is close enough to the dragonite, he turns to face you.

"This is your challenge, and quite a peculiar one too. You see, this young dragonite came to us asking for someone to serve. Her reasons remain unknown, but this is an excellent opportunity to study dragonites more thoroughly and experiment with their magical potential. Perhaps we can bring our two species together - who knows? This might be the beginning of a mutual friendship with our winged relatives.

"In the meantime, this young dragonite needs someplace to stay - errrr, and someone to serve I guess - so the council has chosen you for this task. Don't look so relieved, it is not as easy as you think. And I daresay your small chamber isn't enough to house her. You must begin by building her a home outside the tower, and from there see what you can learn about her past and her people. Despite their likeness to humans we know little about the dragonites and their culture, so this is a great opportunity."

So you are to be her, erm, master? And you're supposed to look after her. Not quite what you were expecting, but hard enough. Question is though, for how long? This isn't going to be a 'do this and you pass' test. This will take along while. There is also the matter of why on zenith she wants a master, but it isn't very important.

"What is your name?" you ask the dragonite tentatively. It is an odd position you find yourself in, being the master of another species.

"My name is Hannah," the dark blue dragonite replies calmly. "I've come to look for someone serve. May I serve you?"

Peculiar indeed.

"Ooookay, this is a little weird." You turn to the elder, who is busy unlocking the manacles. He faces you and smiles, before offering some advice:

"I suggest you begin by taking her outside," he says. "It is where she will be spending most of her alone time, so she better get used to where we are so she can come back from long errands. It would also be good to get started on building her a new home out there.

"On the other hand, you could take her to your chamber, show her some of your books and tomes, and some of your, ahem, projects that I know you've been working on. Letting it get to know you better will be the foundation of a good, ah, friendship I suppose."

"Alternatively, you could simply wander around the tower with her and show her some of our training rooms or laboratories. We will need to perform a few tests, and letting her practice spells with you will be a good way to gauge her potential for magic. She will need to learn her way around, sommay as well start now."
