James feels strange. The room around him, and the teacher, seem to be getting larger. Soon, he is shorter than the teacher, who was not very tall herself. James feels like his skin is crawling. His body is reshaping, but it is hard to tell what is happening in the strange flood of sensations! The only thing he can tell is that long, black hair now cascaded over his face.
When it finally stopped, he had to reach up and part the long, straight hair in front of his eyes. He had to look 'up' at the teacher as he said, "What did you, ha-hmmm, I mean, HMMM,, what is wrong with my voice? What did you do to me?"
Ms. Ling walked over to a large cabinet and opened the door. There was a full-length mirror inside. When it was open, James gasped! Standing next to Ms. Ling was a very pretty, and very obviously Asian girl! As his hand went up to his chest, so did hers. He felt the small breasts with his hand, but he also felt them being touched!
Ms. Ling smiled, "You made fun of me for my size, and for being Chinese. Now you are too. A small, Chinese-American girl."
James gasped, "What? Do I talk like you now? Do I speak Chinese or something?"
Ms. Ling laughed, "No! I want you to know what it is like to be discriminated against. You will find reality has changed. You father is the same, but your mother is of Chinese descent. Your great, great, great grandfather came to this country when the railroads were still being built. Nobody on your mother's side of the family has spoken Chinese for at least three generations. Your family have been Americans longer than many of the Caucasians in your school. Your name is Emily Abigail."
James, well, now Emily, gasped, "You can't do this to me! Change me back!"
She laughed, "When you have learned many things, I might. If you cooperate. You must do as I say until I return to teach here again."
Emily/James was frightened, "When will that be?"
Ms. Ling smiled, "In a year or two. But even then, only if you do as I ask."
Emily/James frowned, "What do I have to do?"
Ms. Ling said, "You need to..."
