Sabrina leaned closer to the TV as she mashed buttons on the controller in her hand as she continued her progress through the level she was on. "Come on!" she said, her eyes glued to the screen as she took in every frame of the game she was playing. Her character darted around the screen, dodging numerous projectiles as she moved to prevent the enemy from reaching her. In a final move, she charged through the level, and the cut-scene appeared on the screen.
"Finally," Sabrina said aloud as she exhaled and laid the controller down on her bed, the only light coming from the TV as she leaned back and grabbed a handful of chips as a well-deserved reward for her effort. She continued to shovel handful after handful into her mouth as she watched the cut-scene, totally engrossed in the game.
She glanced up as she heard a knock on her door, and her mother peeked her head inside, "How are you doing on snacks? Anything I can get you?"
Sabrina glanced at the near-empty bag of chips and untouched container of cookies before responding, "Nah, I'm fine, mom. I still have some cookies to eat."
"Are you sure," her mother asked, a hint of concern in her voice, "I'm more than happy to grab you something if you want me to."
"Actually, could you grab me more chips?" Sabrina said, her eyes still focused on the TV as she grabbed another handful and looked to her mom, who had a smile on her face.
"Sure, honey," she said and disappeared from the doorway as Sabrina continued to chew her mouthful of chips.
As the scene on the TV cut to another, Sabrina mumbled to herself as she popped another chip into her mouth, "Man, the next level is going to be a tough one."
She leaned back on her bed, her dark irises focusing on the monitor as the cut-scene ended, and she regained control over her character. She leaned forward as the epic music swelled, and she dashed off into the next level.
Sabrina was so concentrated that she hardly even registered as her mother reentered her room and placed a couple more bags of chips on the bed next to her, though she was quick to tear into them as she finished the bag of chips she was working on. Sabrina continued to play her video game, eating chips and cookies as she beat level after level. She was determined to beat this game before Tammy could spoil the ending for her.
Sabrina tugged at her jeans as they pinched her waist uncomfortably when she shifted positions and mumbled, "Stupid jeans. They must have shrunk in the wash."
Honestly, it seemed like all her clothes had been feeling a little tighter lately, not just her jeans. So either her mother had accidentally shrunk most of her clothes, or she'd gone through another growth spurt. Tammy kept telling her that it was because she was starting to look a little pudgy but knew she was teasing. Sabrina had always had a fast metabolism and had been able to eat anything she wanted without gaining weight, so there was no way she was getting pudgy.
She knew it was getting late as she finished a level and paused the game, and her growling stomach let her know that she still needed to have dinner, though she wasn't sure what she wanted.
