he let go, just as his father had asked.
"That's a good boy Alex. Now turn around and go. Forget what you saw here."
Alex turned to walk away. After a few steps, he looked down at his hand. A blister was forming where the door handle had burned him. He stopped to touch it. He felt pain.
"This doesn't make any sense" he thought to himself. "This is just a dream".
He turned around and headed back towards his father, who was still standing outside the door.
"Alex, I thought I told you to go."
"You can't tell me what to do". Alex replied. "You aren't real."
Alex's father began to laugh. He shook his head to side to side and responded "Oh Alex, you just don't get it. You never did."
"Who is that girl?" Alex asked.
"What girl?" Alex's father peeked through the door and looked back at Alex. "I don't see any girl."
"There was a girl crying for help on the other side of this door before you opened it."
"Help me! Alex help me!" It was the little girl.
"That's her, that's the girl I heard. How does she know my name?"
"Alex, turn around and walk away" his father yelled at him.
Alex started to turn away and then made a run towards the door, shoving his father out of the way. He stepped through the doorway and immediately felt the floor fall out beneath him. He began to fall. There was no light. Just a black hole of darkness. He screamed, but he could not hear his own voice.
This is just a dream...as Alex reminded himself of this, he gave in to the darkness. And no sooner did he give in, he found himself lying on a cold, damp concrete floor.
"You should have listened to your father." a deep voice spoke into Alex's ear. He jumped back to see who the voice belonged to, but he couldn't see through the darkness.
"Who are you?" Alex cried out.
"Alex! Help me!" It was the girl.
"Who are you?" Alex cried out.
"Let it go." the voice whispered into Alex's ear.
"Why?"
"Just walk away."
Ignoring the voice, Alex started to walk towards the girl's voice.
"If you go you will never wake up."
"And if I stay?"
"You will have to do something for me".
