Grungor's beard bristled with envy. Stoic and stubborn, the Dwarf refused to believe this suspicious crone's words. That was until she showed them the coin. Simply breathtaking in craftsmanship, and the quality of the gold was unlike any he'd ever seen. While the witch gave instructions to Mara, the greedy Grungor ogled the eye-stamped coin, engrossed by his kind's innate lust for wealth. It was just so damn beautiful!
"Grungor, did you get all that?" Mara prodded the Dwarf's cheek with a slender finger. He shook his head clear of the fog, darting his gaze between the two women. The crone seemed much more relaxed in their company, and Mara waited with a hand on her hip. "Well?"
"Ah, erm... no. Where did you find that magnificent artifact? Is there any more treasure like that? Tell us!" Like a child in a candy shoppe, Grungor struggled against the urge to seize the coin for himself. He was absolutely enchanted by its unnatural shimmer. Mara slapped a palm to her forehead and turned back to the beggar.
"I apologize for my companion's foolishness. I don't know what's come over him..." The short elf smiled, flashing her pearly whites to the old crone. "Oh well! Must be a Dwarf thing." Now looking back to Grungor, the mage pointed Northeast toward a much more amiable path. "See? This is a far better lead than that creepy, empty forest."
Stubbornness trumped by greed, the Dwarf nodded with sheer excitement. "Aye, that it is. If there be more treasure like that lovely piece o' art, count me in!" Hefting his old rifle onto his shoulder, Grungor began his march down the road, completely oblivious to the twinkle in the old crone's eye. His elven companion was even less aware of the beggar's true intentions.
"You have my thanks, stranger. May your path be one of joy and happiness." With that, the novice mage bowed lightly and jogged after the tenacious treasurehunting Dwarf. Behind them, the old woman snickered and tucked the coin back into her sleeve. She simply watched the pair stroll off around the winding path.
"The master will be most pleased..." And with that, she slunk back into the shadows beneath the treeline.
