Matt pulled the trigger for a second while his mother turned her back.
The gun hummed quietly, something he could feel more than see.
His mom turned around and sat down at the table again, looking at the newspaper travel section, in her bathrobe.
Matt could tell no difference in her, and he fixed himself breakfast.
His mother glanced at the clock and headed out of the room.
Matt got up for another cup of coffee.
A moment later, Karen came back into the room in a tight-looking tank.
Matt went pale for a second when he turned around to see his mother.
"Something wrong, Matt?" she asked.
Matt shook himself out of it.
"Uh, no... not at all." he bluffed. "I think."
Karen tilted her head at him. "You sure?!?"
Matt stared at her, and gulped. "Uh, well, what day is it?"
"Uh, it's the seventh. Why?"
Matt looked out the window. "Oh, okay. I, uh... I'm okay."
Karen nodded slowly and laughed. "Okay, dude."
Matt walked out of the room, grabbed his backpack and headed down the front stairs.
"It works on people!" he said aloud.
The device in his pocket could change the size of living things. Just ten minutes ago, his mom was six inches shorter than him. Now they were eye-to-eye!
Matt turned around, wondering if he should go shrink her back to normal, or just go on with his day.
His two younger sisters were coming out the front door.
