"Well Ms. Gordon, I've finished setting the splint" Alfred explained to his master's young protege, "It's not a terribly serious sprain, but I'm afraid you won't be doing any costumed crime for some time now."
Barbara smiled. "It's not so bad Alfred, after tonight, I really could use a bit of a break. How long do you think I'll be out for?"
"Hmmm, well it depends Ms. Gordon. With plenty of rest, I don't see it taking more than maybe 4 to 6 weeks to heal"
"Well I better call the Library and tell them I won't be in for a few weeks..." Barbara sighed dejectedly. She loved her job as Gotham City's head librarian, and was a little disappointed to hear that she would be confined to sitting on her butt for a month and a half. But, still, she had been firing on all cylinders for the past few months, trying to juggle between her life as a librarian and her life as a crime fighter. A small vacation was starting to sound better and better now. At least she could finally get that pig-out that she had been planning.

When Bruce had finally arrived home, (At around 7 in the morning no less. Being Batman took nothing less than a full commitment from him), he was mortified to hear from Alfred that one of his partners had been hurt in the line of work. Though Batman had always been painted by the public as a lone stalwart dark avenger, the truth was that he cared deeply for his partners. There was always a part of him that was terrified that one night, he would lose one of his partners, just like he had lost Jason Todd, his previous Robin, before Tim.
“Barbara, please tell me you are alright” Bruce asked worriedly. He would never have been forgive himself if he allowed one of his partners to get hurt again.
“Oh, I’m fine. It was really my fault anyway.”
“No. I was the one who called you and asked you to do a stake-out on your night out. This is my fault. I asked you to patrol that night even though this was your one-night off in some time. I want to make it up to you, while you recuperate, why don’t you stay here at Wayne Manor? Just so Alfred can keep an eye on you, and help you with anything you need”
“Oh, I don’t want to be a bother to him” Barbara said shyly.
“Nonsense Ms. Gordon, it would be my pleasure”
“Well…if you insist!” Barbara exclaimed. A whole month and a half at the most luxurious mansion in Gotham, being waited on hand and foot? Spraining her ankle was looking more and more like the best thing she had done in years!
