Chapter #4

Felix thinks about how to free the dragon.

    by: Unknown
Later that night, as Felix sat in his bed, (Well, not as much of a bed as it was a wooden bunk) begin to think of ideas to free the dragon. He needed to give it a chance to live its life, to not suffer in the way that he does every day, yet he had no ideas on how to carry out his plan. The chain that the reptile was attached to was fixed into the wall, with no locks or anything to unattach it. He couldn't get too close to the chain either to break it, for fear of his life. Even if he didn't get murdered by the beast he would likely be seen by one of the many guards around the castle and be executed on the spot.

He decided to give up thinking on the matter for now and try to get some sleep, given the fact that he was only allowed five hours of rest time every night. He couldn't sleep at all though, despite the fact that he was exhausted from waking up early and running around doing various jobs throughout the day. His eyes restlessly moved about the room, it was made out of stone, and there was only one entrance to it, which was locked. On each side of the room there were many rows of bunks for the many slaves around the castle. There could easily be as many as one hundred people in the room with him. Most of the room's occupants were asleep, and wouldn't notice if he made his way towards the door...

He reached his hand under his bunk, which was lowest towards the floor, and pulled out a rock. It didn't seem any different than any other rock, but this one was special. He had found it once when he was out in the castle's courtyard. It had one sharp edge that could easily be used for picking a lock. He figured he could escape from this room if he tried.. He quickly dispelled the idea though, knowing that if he did make his way out of the room, he would have nowhere to go after that, and would probably be caught and captured quickly by one of he knights on a night patrol. And once caught, he would likely be punished.

He placed the rock back down under his bunk without making a sound, and turned himself over so he faced the wall, trying to give himself a few hours of sleep.
