This choice: Charmander, using a strong Scratch • Go Back...Chapter #6Charmander, using a strong Scratch by: WTLamp   As soon as Oak announced the beginning of the battle, the two trainers issued their commands at exactly the same time.
"Charmander, scratch!"
"Squirtle, tackle!"
Leaf grinned when she saw just how quickly her new partner could move, though. Squirtle had barely begun to react before Charmander had gotten in a good blow with a clawed hand. And in the end, it was that speed that made the difference. Squirtle's retaliatory tackle did some damage, but it just couldn't keep up with Charmander, actually missing once when the orange lizard nimbly dodged out of the way. It took a few scratches to break through Squirtle's defense, but eventually it fell over, unable to move anymore.
"Tch. Unbelievable. I picked the wrong Pokémon," Blue growled as he returned it to its Pokéball. He then rummaged through his pocket, pulled out a few crumpled notes, and threw them at Leaf. The chubby trainer grabbed them triumphantly, and put them into her purse.
"Well done, both of you. An admirable first battle," Professor Oak said.
"Whatever, Gramps. I'm gonna get going and toughen Squirtle up. So savor this victory, Leaf. You won't have another one. Smell ya later." And with that Blue stormed out of the lab.
"I'm sorry about all that," Professor Oak sighed, as he watched his grandson's retreating form.
"Don't worry, Professor. It isn't your fault," Leaf answered.
"Well, I must say that you handled yourself well in that first battle. Not all trainers are that composed," Oak said.
"Thank you. Though I couldn't have done it without this little guy right here," Lead answered, giving Charmander a head rub. The little lizard made a happy noise, halfway between a squeak and a growl.
"Speaking of which, have you decided on a nickname yet?" Oak asked.
Leaf thought for a moment. "Yeah. I think I'll call him Charlie." She then looked down at the Pokémon. "Well Charlie? You ready to go?" The Charmander made a yipping sound that sounded like it was an affirmative answer, so Leaf returned it to its Pokéball. She then turned to look at Professor Oak.
"Well, Professor, I'm off!" she said, before turning and running out of the lab.
"Good luck!" Oak shouted back.
Leaf didn't remain running for long after she left the building. That and the jiggling made her remember her goal to try and use this journey to get back into shape. "All right! The closest city is Viridian-" Leaf said, talking to herself. Her stomach then made a groaning noise.
"Seriously?" she sighed.  indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
