In the end, Red had always known he would pick Squirtle. Charmander seemed to be too much of a challenge while he was still a rookie trainer, though he hoped that would change once he was more experienced, and Bulbasaur seemed like too easy of a choice. Bulbasaur was the gentle natured grass type for trainers who were extremely new to pokemon, and Red liked to think that he was a little more experienced than that. In the end, Squirtle just seemed to fit him better, and it was always useful to have a water type to explore the region with.
"Squirtle it is then," Professor Oak nodded slightly once Red had finally reached out and made his choice, "A great choice. He'll come in handy if you beat the Fuchsia City gym because then you can teach him Surf. Then you can travel to all sorts of places." He held out a slender device to Red, and the boy took it from him with a slightly puzzled look. The device was a little larger than a smart phone, and had a plastic lid that protected the sensitive screen underneath. Red flipped it open curiously, watching as text scrolled rapidly across the screen.
"That's a Pokedex," Professor Oak explained, unable to keep the pride from his voice, "It's a device that allows you to get collect data on pokemon. If you scan a pokemon it's details will be entered into a world wide database. It also acts as your Trainer ID. Anyway, Red," the Professor smiled at him, "I'm giving you this Pokedex so that you can go out and gather more information about pokemon. It would help me a lot with my research, and it will help you learn more about pokemon. That's the way to becoming a true master."
Red nodded, and slipped the Pokedex into the pocket of his bag. He felt a small glow of pride deep inside himself at the fact that the Professor was trusting him to get such vital information.
"I also gave a Pokedex to my grandson, Blue, and Leaf," Professor Oak continued, not noticing as Red sighed and slumped his rounded shoulders, "Now then! What are you waiting for? Get out there and start your pokemon journey!" Red nodded and turned to leave the laboratory. He could go and start his journey right away, the sooner the better, or he could go back home first to grab something to eat before leaving. As if on cue, his fat stomach growled menacingly from underneath his stretched black t-shirt, and Red let out a sheepish chuckle.
His rounded stomach was taut and firm from the breakfast he had shoveled into his mouth, and already he was starting to feel hungry. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
