Chapter #4

Be Kind Rewind

    by: alamaric Author IconMail Icon
Mark was never a people person. One has to remember that.

Well, let's just say he really didn't have many friends, his family (while not having any money issues) wasn't a wealthy one, and he was a bland sort of teenager. Not too tall, not too skinny, not too fat. Hair a rather common shade of auburn and muddy brown eyes.

What made Mark a bit different from other teens was that he loved the idea of fatter women. He simply could not see the real charm in prepackaged Barbie lookalikes and he was frankly tired of girls trying to imitate their so-called idols in their quest for an ideal of beauty he found uninteresting. Sure, he could see the appeal in a well-formed pair of breasts or a nice round ass, but he also saw the charm in pot bellies and double chins.

Mark never had anyone he felt he could trust enough to talk about his "secret" love. So he merely went on, day after day.

One day, the last day of the school year, Mark's parents congratulated their son for his good work on school and asked him to get a job for the summer.

Mark was less than pleased, but he agreed.

"So, your folks want ya to get a job, huh?"

"Pretty much. You think music store's still hiring?"

"Got a better idea. Remember Jack's Video Rental Shack?"

"The old place at the corner of the mall? Mostly sells snacks and pop next to the big fashion stores, doesn't it?"

"Yup. Pretty much nobody ever wants to actually rent videos, so Jack, the owner, began making more of a buck that way. I was the night shift guy there, moving now to the arcade. Folks don't want me returning late."

"Mine don't have that problem. I mean, with me living three blocks away from the mall..."

"See? Perfect choice. C'mon, let's go talk to Jack."

The video rental store was not as affluent as it was once. Even with the incursion of the store's owner on DVDs, it was mostly a snack store which happened to have some videos and DVDs availiable for rental. Most of the time Mark only had to restock the snack shelves and occasionally return one or two boxes of videos or a DVD to their place. One day, a customer happened to have picked up an unrewinded video and complained about it to Mark. Mark took the complaint to heart and always made sure every video that he happened to find in the returns box was properly rewound before replacing it to its place, and added a small adorned sign to the counter:

"Be Kind, Rewind"

He worked well and made his best to ensure a good service to the customer. But he was dreadfuly bored. There was very little to do in the work hours and most of the time he flipped through magazines hoping for somebody to show up. Well, that, or staring out of the glass pane and see the girls strolling by to reach the large fashion stores nearby. He sighed and longed for the day people would understand how to appreciate a BBW with the respect she deserved, and left out their outdated standards out in the cold.

But one day, something changed, and Time itself rewound for him...
