After her close friend and training partner left to go back home, Chie promised him that she would be strong enough to protect everyone. And while she had been putting on a brave face for all her friends, deep down she missed her friend. Without him she didn't even enjoy training anymore. So instead she spent most of her free time at home watching her kung fu flicks and snacking away. After school she'd go out for steak, even when nobody else came with her. It had only been two months since her friend left, but Chie had already put on twenty pounds.
Her other friends were really starting to worry about her, partly because she didn't even seem to notice that anything was wrong. She still acted like the same energetic tomboy she had always been when she was around them, so it was most likely that this gain was subconsious in nature. And she still wore the exact same clothes, only now her newly formed pudgy stomach was poking out underneath her green jacket and her skirt was getting really tight. But even with these changes to her wardrobe she didn't notice anything different about herself. She just kept saying her mom shrunk her clothes in the wash.
One day her friend Yukiko finally worked up the courage to talk to Chie about it and invited her to Junes for steak.
"Oh Yukiko you shouldn't have," said Chie as she waited at the table for their meal to be ready.
"It was my pleasure," she answered as she worried how much this was going to set her back.
"So, what did you want to talk to me about," asked Chie as she looked back to see if their food was ready.
"Oh, um, right." Yukiko wondered how she should aproach the subject. "Well, I just wanted to know how you've been."
"Me, I'm great. You know me, always ready for anything. I mean I got a little depressed yesterday because I tried on my summer uniform, seeing as how we'll have to break them out soon." Chie paused for a second to look back at the resteraunt counter again.
"Oh really," said Yukiko, wondering if Chie was about to say what she thought she was going to say.
"Yeah, and you won't believe it, but my mom shrunk that uniform too," said Chie as she dropped her head down, causing a small double chin to appear. Yukiko sighed, realizing she had assumed right. "I mean, seriously," said Chie, "the buttons would barely connect. I thought they were going to pop off."
"Right, um, well..." Yukiko decided this was the time to speak up.
"Ooh, steaks done," said Chie as she jumped up and ran over to the counter. Yukiko just sighed again. Chie quickly returned holding two trays, one with one steak for Yukiko, and the other with three steaks for herself.
