Chapter #5Big Star by: Unknown That morning saw Yumi padding about her apartment to try and take care of the housework she had let slip during her first week of living there. It had been a gift from her mother on graduating from the esteemed Arisato School of Drama, paid for with the vast amounts of money her father had left for them after his death. The apartment building was in a nice area of the city, close to the theatre Yumi worked at to pay for the rent, and the apartment itself was just perfect for her. It was a one bedroom affair, with a large living room, cosy kitchen, and an almost luxurious bathroom that Yumi had fallen in love with at first sight.
Yumi knew she was lucky, and every Sunday morning she went to the nearby shrine without fail, to pray to her father in gratitude. She was taking good care of her first apartment, the young twenty two year old had always been neat and tidy even as a child, and it was starting to feel a little bit more like home with every box she unpacked. Yumi smiled as she looked about her living room, giving a slight nod on seeing that it was finally complete. It was finally hers.
Yumi had grown just a little taller over the years, and she was still just as thin. Her narrow face was complimented by her cropped dark hair that fell just past her chin, and helped to soften the harsh angles a little. She was pretty, though many had stated that she would have looked good with a few extra pounds on her tiny frame. Still, she was an actress, and to be noticed, Yumi knew she had to remain thin in order to portray a certain image. It was fortunate for her that being thin was easy, she struggled to gain weight.
"Mmm?" Yumi glanced down at her phone as she passed it, noticing that a red light was blinking, "Oh.. I've got a message?" It must have rang when she was in the shower, she realised, and she hit a button as she turned to begin straightening out the cushions on the couch. There was a beep, followed by the standard electronic voice, before the message finally came through.
"Yumi, sweetheart? It's Rochelle," Yumi stiffened slightly, it was her agent, "You've been offered the starring role in a play, honey! It's Madame Butterball, I know, the Madame Butterball! I don't think I've ever had one of my girls get a role this juicy so quickly! Anyway, they're really happy with what they've seen so far! But.. uhh. Well, the thing is dear, that you need to look a little more like the esteemed Madame Butterball. You're far too thin. The director is gonna email you with the specifics, honey. Call me!"
Yumi found herself gazing at the now silent answering machine with wide eyes. She had been offered the role of the Madame Butterball? The most fought after role in theatre to date? She felt herself go a little dizzy, and she had to hold onto the back of the couch for support. A wide smile tugged over her thin lips, and she gave a little dance for joy. Sure there was the whole issue of being too thin, Yumi realised absently, but surely there was ways around that? She sat on her couch, pulling her laptop open and quickly logged into her emails.

Congratulations! I would be honoured for you to star in my production of 'Madame Butterball' as the good Madam herself! You have the perfect voice and star quality to do the character justice. My only issue that is you are so small. Tradition dictates that Madame Butterball must be at least 250lbs in size.
My offer is this. If you can reach at least 200lbs before opening night in three months time, I will double your pay.
Or you can wear a fat suit to play the part.

Yumi sat back against the couch, her eyes wide. On one hand she would have to gain a hundred pounds of weight in just three months, and she found it hard to gain weight at the best of times.
