Put the "special" mask on

by: rugal b. Author IconMail Icon
The "special" mask... Caleb's not going to be any help in telling you who it is and so your interest has been piqued. Maybe that was Caleb's goal all along and if so, good show on his part. He's been coy so it obviously must belong to someone big. Chelsea Cooper or Cindy Vredenburg perhaps? Maybe Andrea Varnsworth. Kim Walsh, senior class president and most likely valedictorian would be a big one as would Ms. Novak, the pretty 9th grade history teacher.

With no option but to dive right in, you grab the mask, lay down on the floor and put it on. After waking up a few minutes later, you get to your feet and glare at Yumi, who's looking down her shirt. A bit of dark, black hair falls into your face but you really don't even care. "You son of a bitch!" you yell as you walk towards her direction.

"Huh? What?" Caleb says, looking up. And then he smiles. "Oh, went with that one huh? What do you think?"

"How could you?!" you yell, "I fucking told you before not to involve her!"

"No," he states defiantly, "there was something about the golem or whatever and not making it. I think?" he then looks back at you annoyed, "Wait! Is this one of those things where you maybe THOUGHT something but never said it? It fucking probably is."

"Ugh! Look, you should've known. How could you be so inconsiderate?!" you exclaim.

Caleb looks visibly annoyed, "Inconsiderate?! The whole reason I GOT that one was because I thought you'd appreciate it! You're still obsessed over her and, I don't know, I thought a mask could maybe give you some kind of closure or you could use it to see her naked or SOMETHING."

You're about to yell back but decide not to. Yelling's not going to help anything after all. "Okay, good intentions or not... you should KNOW how I feel. A Lisa mask is just... I don't know. I don't know what to think."

Caleb just makes a face. "What do you mean? You want Lisa right? Now you have her... whenever you want even." he says.

You can tell that in his own way, Caleb is trying to genuinely be nice and help you out but you're just not sure how much it's working. "Yeah, I do. Or I did anyway. But like this?" you gesture towards yourself, "I don't know. It feels... wrong somehow." you look up towards Caleb, still wearing the Yumi mask. "I mean, how do YOU do it? You're into Yumi, right, so how are you able to just... be her? It doesn't feel weird?"

Caleb shook his head. "Not really. I mean, I'm not ACTUALLY her. Like I'm not some kind of alien goo taking over her body or anything. I just look like her and have her memories. I mean maybe it's a little weird but to me, it's fun I guess. A bit of a fantasy. I mean look at me, you can see that Yumi's hot so what kind of shot would a dork like me have with her?" he grimaces, "This is about the only way I can get close to her, or Eva, or Jessica or whoever and if that's what I have to do, that's what I have to do I guess." He then smiles, "Besides, living another life can be fun."

"Yeah but... I don't know." you say unsuredly, "I guess I could try going to school as Eva tomorrow."

"Yeah! Exactly, there you go!" Caleb perks up. "These things are a cool gift. Have some fun with them, don't get all mopey and serious about this shit! Like me, those hot cousins I mentioned? Yumi's gonna meet one of them tonight for some math tutoring. I kind of want to go to that meeting myself, get a mask of them you know? I can use that to scope out Eastman since, like I said, they've got some fine-ass girls over there. That and I've heard it's a lot better."

"Better?" you ask, "How's that?"

"It's stuff I've heard around plus what Dana and Sarah, those are the cousins by the way, have mentioned to Yumi before." he explains, "Just the people there are generally a lot nicer, the gossip queen makes sure of that. I dunno how that works but that's what I know. It's a bit different from here where assholes like Gordon and Patterson run wild and flex their muscle."

You make a whistling sound, "Damn, saying it like that I wouldn't mind checking out that place myself. Besides, I could probably use some distance from Lisa." you say.

"See, there you go!" Caleb exclaims, "Think of the good parts of this, don't just act like it's some huge burden."

"Question, though." you interject, "Don't you need to get her out of the way first?"

Caleb's eyes go wide and he smacks his forehead, "Crap! Yeah, you're right. Ugh, didn't you get a new spell or something? Maybe that'd be able to help." he says.

You look at him sternly. You already balked at telling him once thinking that he'd be too immature and self-centered and thus not trustworthy with knowing about the slave mask. This conversation, however, has shown you that there's more to your friend than what he presents on the surface. Is it enough to convince you that perhaps he should know? Or would it be better to still not say anything. You can always make up a story and besides, you're still a little pissed about the Lisa mask.

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. Relent and tell Caleb about the new spell

2. Get rid of Yumi but make up a story for Caleb

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
