This choice: Consumed by the Mystery of the Spells. • Go Back...Chapter #20Consumed by the Mystery of the Spells. by: Wordsmitty ✍️   With the mask done with the new spell, you go back to the book and use it to reveal the rest of the spell's text on how to use it, even though you think you've figured it out from how all the spells have been going. Sure enough, it tells you that this mask changes the person when worn, but puts them under the control of the master instead of the wearer. So obvious now. Unfortunately, it doesn't help on how to change Cassie back from being a golem, or Lisa, if Blackwell did that to her. Also, unfortunate, there is no one around for you to use it on and unlock the next page of the book.
It's getting late, and you have to get some sleep before Cassie shows up in the morning for you to switch with her and go to school. You're tempted to go now to campus as Melody and use the mask on some unsuspecting student as a test. You know there's always someone wandering the campus and Melody will be at the library as usual until it closes at midnight. This would also give you a chance to take some of the remaining money you got from Blackwell and deposit it back into Melody's account to start paying her back. For some reason, both you and Melody have the same commitment to being honest and fair, and that's been making a strong impression on you since you got the money. You only intended to borrow the money. Besides you'd be getting more tomorrow evening after cataloging some more for Blackwell.

It's almost midnight, and you are on campus waiting for Melody to come down her usual path back to the dorm. From her memories, you know that there's almost never anyone along here, but it is safe. It's the perfect place to ambush her and try all the things that the masks are now capable. You're a bit, well much more than a bit nervous. In fact you are almost terrified of what could go wrong if someone sees or she escapes and the police or if it doesn't work and the stuff you're carrying and ...
There she comes as you see her through the trees. The path you're on merges with hers just ahead. There's no one in any direction, so you put your plan into action and start for the intersection getting there just ahead of her. Suddenly your books and bag slip from your arms and spill onto the path a few steps in front of Melody. You bend down to pick them up, and Melody stops to help.
She is just about to say something when you slap the Melody mask on her face and she passes out. You look around to be sure there's no one about and you tear the Umeko mask from your face. Your head swims and you stagger a bit but remain fully conscious. Your body is getting use to this. The sweat pants and shirt you have on stretch tight, but don't tear with your normal body now in them. You made sure before you left and also that they fit Umeko's body so anyone could see you were a girl. Melody has no fear of women at night and is always helping people, so you knew she would stop and you could mask her.
After a minute you know that the mask will have absorbed any new memories, so you put your fingers to her forehead, whisper the phrase and pull the Melody mask off. Before she can wake, you put the Umeko mask on her and place the Melody one on yourself. Your mind fills with Melody's past week's happenings without you passing out.
As Melody comes round, she gets a strange look in her eyes or more precisely Umeko's eyes then says, "What's going on, boss? Where the hell are we?"
"Shush! Keep quiet and just come along with me."

There's the bright flash and you hope that it doesn't draw any attention and someone comes over to see what you're doing behind your truck. The flame quickly dies down to the purple glow. Now all you have to do is wait for about fifteen minutes until it burns out.
"So, you've kidnapped Melody under the mask I'm wearing so you can have a real girl but shaped like the cousin you have the hots for." Umeko said as she cuddled up to you while watching the flame. "I knew you had some kinky ideas, being as I have your memories and urges, but this does seem a little perverted even for ..."
"Quiet."
"Oh, right, boss." she breathily says fluttering Umeko's eyes at you.
"And stop that. I've used the Umeko mask to verify it controls humans like a golem and am turning the Melody mask into another so I can control her but she'll still be Melody."
"So, as I said, you want a soft female puppet instead of a cold clay one."
"The way you say that, you'd think you were jealous." you retort. "I just need to make sure that Melody doesn't give us away accidentally, and this new spell is the perfect opportunity to take control of that."
"OK then. I didn't ever think this Melody was your type, although the way you like to wear her body ..."
"I can't believe that I am that obnoxious." you mutter, really to yourself.
"Being you in mind, I can truly tell you that you are..."
"Enough! At least we know that Melody hasn't had any contact with Blackwell to screw anything up. Now we need to make sure it stays that way."
"Say, boss, this is kinda romantic with the fire and all. Want to make out while we wait? It would look less suspicious, and ..."

Everything went off as planned. The Melody-golem mask is now on her with instructions to just be Melody. You also told the mask that when she went to sleep, to forget about the clubhouse, the masks and the book. Also anything that went on there, but remember you were her master but didn't know the name Will Prescott. You hoped that was safe enough without eliminating too much or causing any future problems.
You also found out that she planned to be at the library Wednesday working on a paper all afternoon and evening. This worked perfectly as you added instructions to meet you at five when you would swap or make another mask of her to use when you went to Blackwell's.
There was just one other thing you had found out from Melody tonight that caused you to be a little concerned. It seemed that Melody had made a new friend during the past week and they had hit it off really well. This meant you would have to be more careful since she wasn't just a loner any more and the new friend might notice, or worse. However, that wasn't what concerned you. That came from knowing that her new good friend was Umeko.
