Well... it's really quite simple. You just make a character you feel would fit in to this crazy world of pirates and insane powers. No matter how crazy it is, as long as it fits. I mean if you want a anthro kraken go for it. Or maybe a seafaring part human part slime part man-eating tiger. I don't know just go for it.
