Raven closed the cover of a red leather bound tome with wispy looking runes scrawled around it like chains. She thumped her fingers across it several times deep in thought. "Talarok" That's what he said his name was, Talarok and nothing more. It was a lie to be sure. A demon does not give out it's name for free, knowing a demons name is the first step in binding that demon to your control. What's more, demon names are always much longer, their egos always leading them to include titles like "The Black Decay" and "Ruler Of Death". But even when they give you a fake name it's a clue to their true identity, eager to brag about their power hubris tends to lead demons into giving away who they are once you start to deal with them enough. But Raven had been talking to Talarok for two weeks now through her relay stone and still he was keeping all his cards face down. Suddenly a knock came from the door breaking her concentration.
"Hey we're here" Came a monotone sigh of a voice
"You can come in" Raven called out with the same enthusiasm
The doors spread open to reveal Jinx with Starfire hovering happily behind her. The young walking misfortune and cheerful alien girl entered Raven's room.
"Oh Raven I am so glad we are throwing a sleepover, it will be most fun!" Starfire beamed
"Star..." Raven winced at her friend's misunderstanding "This isn't a sleep over , I need you two for a minor ritual I need to perform" Raven explained as she set about laying down pillows for them to sit on around a circle, a small oval shaped stone with a hole in it sat on a pedestal at the center of the circle. Raven handed them both a cup of tea to relax them before they began.
"Why did you call for me exactly?" Jinx looked at Raven funny as she was handed her tea "Just because I'm not with the hive anymore doesn't make us girlfriends you know"
Raven frowned and looked at Jinx skeptically "I know you're not our ally but I need help and you were one of the few people I felt I could trust that could help me with this"
"Oh joyous!" Starfire broke in "This sounds like it will be one of those sleep over party games!"
"What?" Jinx choked slightly on her tea "You'd trust me more than that bossy leader of yours or the green twerp?"
"Not in a million years" Raven hissed with a stern glare "But they didn't fit the requirements of this ritual..."
"And that would be?" Jinx narrowed her eyes and cocked her head to one side with a hand on her hip
"I was instructed..." Raven rolled her eyes and looked away from the two girls "That to perform the ritual we'd need 3 virgin girls"
"Yo-shhhfff I, bu... WHAT?!?" Jinx blurted out dumb struck. Starfire just turned beet red and tried to pretend she was too busy drinking her tea to comment.
"...near the apex of their maturity into adulthood to join their hands and-"
"Wait just a second sister!" Jinx stopped her "What makes you think I'm a virgin!?" Jinx tried to shove her finger in Raven's face and hold the tea with the same hand without blocking her glare at the blue haired sorceress. "Just because you can't get any doesn't mean I'm in the same boat! Unlike you I actually have a man!"
"Oh please" Raven grumbled "an ice queen like you?" Raven pushed a stunned Jinx's hand aside "You'll probably keep teasing flash for a year before you actually get serious about letting him go past second base"
"Oh like you know me so well?!" Jinx boiled "I'll have you know I've had his hands all over m-" Jinx began to grow louder and louder until Starfire cut in.
"Friends Friends! Please let us not bicker about our... purity" Starfire pleaded "Can we not bury the tree felling instrument and form new bonds?"
Raven and Jinx exchanged heated glances before groaning "Fine!" Jinx spat
"Anyway..." Raven sighed and looked at Jinx "I would have called Bumbblebee or Argent but with the confidence and sass Bumbblebee has... or the way Argent dresses... I was worried they've..."
"Been all the way?" Jinx huffed "I still call BS on your assumption that I'm..."
"Yes but you're still here aren't you?" Raven replied flatly "I already told you this calls for young pretty virgins and you're still here so I can only assume..."
"Ugh! Fine!" Jinx growled in frustration "I'm a virgin ok?!" Jinx stared at Raven daring her to show even the slightest sign of victory but Raven just held her poker face. "tck... I'll help with your dumb pow-wow"
"Oh yay!" Starfire cheered and hugged a surprised Jinx
"Good then next we'll need to apply these markings to your hands and chest, Starfire please take off your gloves and unlatch your collar" Raven held up a jar of sickly green liquid and used it to paint symbols on each girls palm and back of the hand as well as a symbol over their hearts.
"So just what is this ritual about anyway?" Jinx asked as she adjusted her shirt back up to cover her chest once more.
"I'm contacting a demon" Raven said stoically looking away
"What?! Raven no!" Starfire gasped
Jinx smirked "Little miss goody two shoes is dabbling in some hardcore evil here..."
"Shut up!" Raven growled at them making Jinx frown again and cross her arms, Starfire's face twisted and turned to a hurt rejected pout as she cringed at her friend's outburst. "Sorry, I don't mean to sound angry, but I'm being careful ok? I haven't told them anything about myself, they don't know who I am or where I am. But... I have to do this, I need to find out..."
"Find out what?" Starfire asked standing up again and moving close to her friend
"If my dad is still alive..." Raven said
"Still alive?" Starfire asked in a hushed voice "I do not understand, did we not soundly defeat him already? Do we still have reason to fear a return?"
"Maybe maybe not" Raven sighed "Demon's don't die, their spirits tend to remain no matter what you do, the only way to be rid of a demon is to bind their souls in some form of prison and hope they never escape for all eternity."
"So... where is your dad then?" Jinx asked as she moved to sit on one of the pillows
