Judy wasn't certain if she felt worry or relief when the feeling of being sucked through a vacuum cleaner happened again.
When the light faded once more, she had to blink a few times to get the light completely out of her eyes. The first thing she did when she could see properly again was to look at her hand-paws. To her immense relief, she saw that she had her own grey-furred handpaws back.
That was enough to get her to look herself over. Grey bunny-footpaws? Check. Fluffy white bobtail? Check. ZPD uniform? Check. Long bunny-ears? Double check!
She looked up and saw Nick's body looking himself over too, the stone still in the handpaw where Judy had held it.
"It worked!" sighed Judy with relief. "We are back to normal!"
"Thank goodness for that," replied Nick as he finished looking himself over. "It wasn't really fun suddenly being in your body."
"Sorry about that," apologized Judy. "But, I had no idea that the stone would do that to us."
"Oh, yeah. The stone..." said Nick as he looked at the stone that he was still holding. Very carefully, he placed it on the small table in the apartment, with a look on his face that suggested that he was handling a ticking bomb instead of a stone.
Judy looked at the stone with something between worry and curiosity. "Where do you suppose that stone came from?" she asked Nick, turning her eyes towards her friend.
Nick now appeared to be deep in thought, but it wasn't long before an idea flashed into his mind.
"Carrots," he said. "Have you ever heard the story about the Wishing Stone?"
"Of course I have," said Judy. "What mammal hasn't? That old fairytale about the alchemist that created a stone that could..." She trailed off as she realized what Nick was suggesting. She looked at the stone again before saying: "No way! You think that this is the Wishing Stone? That can't be! It's just and old story!"
"And yet it caused us to swap bodies when you made that careless thought," replied Nick. "That certainly fits the description of the stone. And what are the odds that there should be another weird stone out there somewhere that can cause mammals to swap bodies?"
Judy had to admit that Nick had a good point, but it was still much to take in. She'd always believed that the legend of the Wishing Stone was just that: a legend. And yet she had had an experience that clearly indicated that the story was true!
The two mammals stared at the stone for almost two whole minutes before Nick spoke.
"So; what do we do now, Carrots?"
Judy thought hard about it before she decided to...
