The cavern was dry but remained cool even on the hottest days of summer. And it was spacious...especially for a single occupant. Also, it had been filled with makeshift but quite comfortable furnishings. All in all it was a virtual mansion for it's sole inhabitant.
But Danya couldn't help but thinking of it as a prison as well.
A somewhat self-imposed prison, it was true. Certainly a prison that was keeping her alive. For if any of her former tribe found her, her life would be forfeit. But still, she sometimes feared going mad inside her 'new home'.
Of course the worst times were when her two 'benefactors' weren't able to visit regularly. And as it happened, those two had been off for a couple of weeks on some sort of 'mission' of some sort. Oh, sure they'd warned her about it...and made sure she'd been well-stocked with supplies before leaving. But that didn't help with the loneliness at the moment.
At least they should be back soon, Danya thought. She was looking forward to their return. Indeed, so much so that she had to pause a moment and reflect on how utterly strange her life had become. A year ago would she have ever imagined that she'd be spending her life hiding in a hidden cave...or that her two best friends were...a couple of Pixies!
