He was the same thin guy he had been a grad school. He certainly wasn't a stud but he wasn't ugly either. Looking himself over in the mirror because he didn't wear a jacket much, he was satisfied. The jacket made him look a little fuller in the chest and shoulders. I should dress up more often, he told himself.
Church was much like he remembered. He saw families, young couples his age with one or two small children and older couples with teenagers. This all made him feel like life was passing him by. Why was he still alone and lonely? As the service progressed he remembered what he had enjoyed about church. He loved singing. Everyone had always told him he had a lovely baritone voice and he found himself singing lustily.
The service over, David waited in line to shake hands with the Pastor. He wanted to bolt for the door and escape but the crowd kept him in line. Finally, he greeted the Pastor and was eager to head out the door when he felt a hand on his shoulder.
