Not recognizing the voice, Dave muttered something about eating while the voice continued.
"I'll bet your don't know who this is. I'm Brad Simmons. You don't know what a hard time I had finding you."
Dave was excited remembering Brad, his best friend in high school. They had gone to different colleges and Brad had only seen him once or twice since graduation. Brad was on the west coast and Dave on the east and somehow he had just never made the effort to keep in touch.
"Brad, it's good to hear from you. What's up?"
"Well, it's like this," Brad said. "I'm here in the city on a business trip and I heard somewhere that you were here and so I've been trying to find you all day. I'm staying at the Hyatt. Why don't you join me for a drink?'
Dave told him, "Of course," and quickly pulling on some chinos and a polo, headed down to the hotel.
Eagerly scanning the lobby for Brad and hoping that he would recognize him after all these years, he didn't see anyone who could possibly be Brad so he headed for the bar. Walking across the lobby, he felt a hand on his shoulder and soon he was pulled into a big bear hug.
"Dave, old buddy," he heard, "It's good to see you again.Let me take a good look at you."
"You too," Dave replied, stepping back to get a look at his old friend.
He realized why he hadn't recognized him earlier. He had the same laughing eyes and big smile but he had changed from the skinny kid, Dave remembered.
