Chapter #5

Dad comes out.

    by: Unknown
"Hey up there" Dennis and Amy heard, they turned to see their exiting his shop.
"Hey... dad." Amy whispered and waved down at him "I, can I pick you both up please?" she asked.
"Yeah go for it" Dennis replied "dad?" he looked at his father who nodded. Amy held out her hand and both men climbed on.
Amy brought them to her face and said "I'm so sorry" she began tearing up "for what?" Dennis asked confused "for all of this, for you having to live in this place instead of with me. Its not fair. We belong together as a family, I... I" Amy began sobbing,

Large tears splashed to the ground at her feet as she cried. "Amy." her dad said calmly "Amy listen to me. None of this is your fault. Understand? None at all."
"I should have come sooner but I didn't know where you were. I kept asking mom but she refused to tell me until recently. Why, why couldn't we be together, why'd mom have to be such a selfish bitch?" Amy continued crying.
"Amy you shouldn't talk that way about your mother. Even if she has caused us all a lot of pain" her dad tried to calm her.
Dennis barely remembered their mother. What memory's he did have were of an emotionally distant woman, he felt like she barely showed an interest in him. That still hurt him "why wasn't I good enough for her. Why didn't she want me?" Dennis had asked himself that question many times, usually while sobbing into a pillow. He'd seen her picture in magazines before. Sometimes on TV. She didn't really look that different from his memory's, she still had that same emotionally distant look in her eyes. And she was big, really big from what he knew. "Why is Amy so small? She should be way bigger because of mom right?" Dennis wondered.

"I mean how could she abandon you, especially Dennis, who does that to their own child? Leaving them to be shrunken down while they live larger than life." Amy whimpered.
"Amy come on, this should be a happy moment and you're all gloom and doom" Dennis spoke up "It's not like you could have done anything, you were just a kid."
"I'm sor..." "No, no more of this 'I'm sorry shit' It was not your fault okay. I'm your wise big brother so should listen to me" this earned a laugh from Amy and she began to relax.

"I guess it's good we're together now. I don't want us to ever be apart again, that's part of why I came here, I want you two to come with me." Amy said, leaving her dad and brother shocked.
"You want us to come with you?" her dad stammered "to live with you?"
"Yes, please come with me. I know I'm asking a lot considering you don't really know me and I've just come back into your life but.... I need you both." Amy begged.
"I don't know Amy. That's asking a lot of us so soon" her dad said.
"I know and I'm not asking you to make a right decision now but please consider it. I promise it'll be much better than this life you have now." Amy pressed on.
"Better than this huh?" Dennis pondered aloud "would mom even be okay with that though?"
"Who cares what mom wants. She's taken enough from us already and she's barely around anyway. I doubt she'd even notice you, she doesn't even notice me most of the time now." Amy's tone was sad and she hung her head.

"I get the feeling she's really depressed." Dennis thought "sounds like mom doesn't give her the affection she wants. I sure as hell understand what that feels like."
"Amy? How big is mom in comparison to you. I know she's stupid rich so I thought you'd..." "Be taller?" "Well yeah, you seem way smaller than I would have thought you'd be."
"Mom is really controlling when it comes to finances, she gives me what she feels like giving. I used to be three times as big as I am now. The she shrank me without any explanation." Amy confessed "I don't understand her at all, she's so cold most of the time."
"I know what that's like. All the memory's I have of her are her being distant with me. There were only a few times I got an actual hug from her I think." Dennis said bitterly.
"I don't remember her ever properly hugging me" Amy teared up again "why is she like this?"

"Your mother had a rough life. Before all the riches I mean." their dad said "she was born poor, poorer than we are now. Any chance she had to better her life she took it. Even if it meant abandoning the people who loved her."
"Was her life really that bad?" Amy asked, her eyes were bloodshot and her makeup was running.
"She certainly thought so. She just couldn't be satisfied with what she had, she needed to be bigger, bigger than anyone. She wanted to be the biggest person in the world she told me, all so she would never feel small and helpless again, even if it meant she'd be alone at the top of the world." their dad finished speaking and Amy and Dennis could only stand in silence.

"That doesn't excuse the things she's done to you, to me" Amy furrowed her brow.
Her dad held up his hands "I'm not making excuses for her. I'm just tryin to help you understand her thought process. You're right though, it doesn't excuse what she's done to the two of you."

A crowd had begun to gather after they'd heard Amy's crying.
"Maybe we should go for a walk Amy. Away from nosey gawking idiots." Dennis suggested.
"Okay. Hold on, it might be a bit bumpy." Amy began walking towards the outskirts of town taking care to protect her dad and brother.
"Do you want to see her?" Amy directed at Dennis "mom?" "yeah."
"I don't really know. I'm not sure it would end well if we met. Not after she abandoned me." Dennis felt tears forming in his eyes but hid them from his sister.

Once they'd reached a suitable location, a quite open clearing, Amy sat down and Dennis and their dad climbed off her hand.
Before they could continue talking Amy's phone began beeping. "I got a text from a friend" she said and began reading.
Amy's eyes went wide and her mouth fell open.
"Amy whats wrong?" her dad asked.
"It's mom" she "she.." "what? is she hurt?" "no she did it, she actually did it. Its insane"
"Whats insane?" Dennis was confused "she owns the bank" "what bank" "all of them" she whispered. They sat there in stunned silence.
"How can one person own all the banks. Aren't their rules against that kind of thing?" Dennis asked
"Not really, not anymore, not after mom worked her magic on all the government's." Amy made an audible gulp.
"Whats going to happen now? What will she do with all that money?" Dennis asked "you know her better than anyone"

"I'm not sure but mom basically owns the whole world now. She controls everyone's money. I..." Amy's phone went off again, a phone call this time "hello" she answered. "Amy, Amy oh god you have to do something" a frantic voice responded. "Mel calm down what's going on" "we're shrinking Amy, everyone is shrinking." "she wouldn't" Amy whispered "Mel I promise I'll call you back okay?." Amy hung up. "I don't know what to do" she said still shocked. "I.."

Dennis and his dad were hit first. Amy watched in horror as they began to shrink "Dad, Dennis noooo" she screamed. Dennis looked up at his sister who seemed to be growing larger and then he noticed the size difference started going in reverse. "Amy, shit, we;re shrinking" "I know I know. I'll try and..." "I mean we're all shrinking" "what?" she yelled and then noticed the size gap between them was rapidly decreasing. "What's she doing out there" Amy screamed and began typing on her phone, she sent a single line of text
"Mom please don't do this"

She eventually got a response
"Not now I'm busy"

"She's shrinking us, I cant believe she's shrinking us" Amy shook her head from side to side.
The size difference had decreased enough for Dennis to wrap his arms around his sister and hug her. The first hug she'd ever had from her brother. She would have been ecstatic if it hadn't been for their current predicament. They were still shrinking.

"Come on lets go" their dad said and began leading them back into town.
They finally arrived back at their dads shop and turned on the news. It was the same everywhere, everyone and everything on the planet had been reduced to the same measly height. All except for Dennis and Amy's mother. Miranda.

Amy began texting her mother again
"Mom what have you done? Why is it so important you've grown so big?"

"I haven't grown yet" came the reply.

Amy stood there frozen in terror. "Whats wrong" Dennis asked putting his hand on her shoulder. "How big do ya think mom is now?" he asked cautiously. Amy shook her head and started crying "she.. she.. oh god no."

They continued watching the news, waiting for anything new to arise.
Then they felt a it, a tremor and then a laugh, a deep, powerful laugh that shook them to their cores "no mom,no" Amy whimpered. Another tremor shook the shop and they dashed outside. Amy's phone beeped as she received a text
"Amy its your fucking mom, she's growing and I don't think she's stopping. She's fucking huge"

They heard screams, they saw people pointing at something in the distance and looked.

"Oh god no" Amy screamed.
"Holy shit" Dennis gasped.

It was their mother, Miranda, she was growing, her blissful smiling face was climbing higher and higher over the horizon.
They watched their mother raise her hands to sky, practically willing herself larger and larger.
"Please stop mom, please stop" Amy repeated over and over.

Their mother wore a black business suit ,that barely contained her curves, and open toed high heels. She was a little pudgy at this point in her life but still plenty fit. She really looked great for a fifty year old woman, a gigantic goddess of a woman.
