Johnny pulled on a sweatshirt and raced quickly downstairs. He saw a note from his mother by the phone. It read:
Johnny,
I've gone to your aunt's house.
Come over later, if you wish.
If not, I'll see you tonight.
Love,
Mom
PS. Your father had to work today. He won't be home until late.

Johnny picked up the phone and dialed the number from memory. It rang five times before a familiar voice answered, "Hello, Smithson residence."

"Sarah. I-It's J-Johnny. I really need to talk to you. P-Please. C-Can y-you c-come over right away?"

Sarah said nothing for several seconds before replying, "Johnny? Is that you?"

"Y-Yeah! P-Please Sarah. I need your help!"

"What's wrong?" she asked, scared now by the terror in his voice.

"I c-can't explain over the ph-phone. C-Can't you c-come over?"

"I'll be there in ten minutes. But, this had better be good. I had plans for today." She hung up and ran upstairs for her socks and shoes.
