Wherever the two were off to now, a hunting lesson most likely, Scar stood on the edge of pride rock and surveyed the domain. He wanted it, he wanted to master it all and rule with strength over every inch of it.
He needed a way to be stronger than his brother, and his faster brain eventually settled on a way it might be possible. That mad old monkey Rafiki, his poultices and potions, he'd have a way to increase his strength.
Slinking through the high grass and across the savanna like the rolling shadow of a thin cloud, Scar made his way to Rafiki's tree, but the blasted ape had gone.
Scar felt his nimbleness useful for a moment, only a lion as small and agile as him would've been able to leap-claw-leap his way to the bough where Rafiki kept his stock. Perhaps that was the point, and perhaps he was the loophole.
So many different colored fruits and berries, leaves and barks, hung from string from branches and danced in stone-cups around him. Scar did some mental calculations, counting out different ingredients with a single black claw, and eventually shrugged his shoulders and drank from every available formulation.
It made him feel heavy, especially in his stomach as they all sloshed together, but he felt confident that just as the ancestors and the land magic of Africa had put him in this position, so too would a communion with all the gifts of the earth would bring him to his fate.
His walk back to Pride Rock grew harder and harder, and eventually, he laid out, breathing heavy at the base of the rock. When he felt his body shiver and shake and start to grow...
