Astonished at what just happened, before her very eyes, a million thoughts roll through Grace's young mind, fighting for her attention. Her best friend forever, Michelle, had just shrunk, inexplicably. A mere fraction of her former, and Grace's current, height. Hardly as tall as the smallest of Grace's toes, a speck of a being. The bus rounds the corner as Grace stands, stupified, taking in the situation. Stopping, the bus driver waits a moment, before leaning off his seat slightly, and calling to Grace. "You getting on?" Grace, looking over, just shakes her head. The bus driver, unconcerned, presses onward to finish his route. Crouching down slowly, Grace watches her shrunken friend, still as stunned as Grace, the ring, now a massive, metal circle beside her, fully-sized. Unsure of what to do to grow, or even help Michelle, Grace scoops her up in to her hand, with the ring, and looks around, almost expecting a bystander to stop her. There were none. Turning, Grace races home, her heart pounding. She'd been away for a short time, but her family had busy mornings...mom and dad worked..no siblings..she'd be home alone. With Michelle. Arriving home and letting herself in with her key, Grace hurried to her bedroom, tossed her backpack aside, kicked her sneakers off, and dropped to her knees on her hardwood floor, Michelle, dazed in her giant friend's palm, staring up at her blankly, as if in a dream. Staring back down at her sensitive, frail, powerless friend, Grace can't help but blush as a feeling of strength and control take hold of her.
