Chapter #2Stay In Your Room by: Unknown You glance over at the clock on your dresser. It reads 7:30 in the morning. You see the sun's rays starting to creep along your bedroom floor. You groan, as you pull your bed sheet over your head, to keep the sunlight out.
"It's too early," you say to yourself, as you roll over and try to go back to sleep. "Plus, if I go downstairs, I'm sure someone will end up shrinking me again." You close your eyes and go to sleep...
A few hours later, you hear your mother's car door slam, waking you up. She's going to work. You see the car back out of the driveway and take off.
You stick your head out of your room and listen to any noise downstairs. You hear your sister, Sara, laughing. She's probably watching cartoons or something. Your brother Dan usually sleeps in during the summer, waking up at around 10 o'clock each day, so you were probably pretty safe from him, for now anyway.
You were hungry, so you decided to go downstairs for breakfast, hoping Sara wouldn't shrink you while you were down there.
You walk downstairs and see her sitting on the couch, eating a bowl of cereal while watching TV. "Good morning, brother," she says, a grin on her face.
"Good morning," you reply, as you make your way into the kitchen. "With any luck," you say to yourself. "I should be in and out within five minutes." Sara watched as you went back and forth, first to the fridge, then to the cabinets, then back again. Sitting on the couch gave her a prime location to watch your every move...
You went over to the fridge again, to get a box of cereal on top. It was no big deal, you've done it countless times over the years. But this morning, you had a harder time reaching it than before. You think nothing of it, though you glance back into the living room to see Sara smiling back at you.
You go to pour the cereal into a bowl, when suddenly, you feel yourself shrinking. It wasn't that much, only about six inches or so, but still noticeable. "Sara, leave me alone," you say to her, your back to your sister. "All I want to do is have breakfast, maybe take a shower and spend the rest of the day with my friends. That's it. I'm really not in the mood to deal with this today."
You hear her slide off the couch and enter the kitchen. As you go to put the cereal box back, she shrinks you again, another three inches.
"Damn it, this isn't funny," you say, as you struggle to reach the top of the fridge, jumping up and down several times, before giving up and placing the box on the counter.
Sara laughs at your attempts. "It's a little funny," she replies, walking over to you. You notice that the top of her head only reaches the bottom of your mouth now. She grins up at you, before shrinking you again, making you the same height as her.
"Why do you people keep doing this?" you ask her. "Can't you see I don't like being shrunk all the time?"
"Because it's fun," Sara replies simply. "Well, fun for us, anyway."
You groan in frustration, brushing past her hurriedly in an attempt to leave, when you start shrinking again.
"You're not going anywhere today," she says. You turn around to see that you're about a foot shorter than her now, more or less. She puts a hand on your shoulder to keep you in place.
"Just leave me alone!" you yell, looking up at her. "I hate it when you people do this!" Suddenly, you shrink again, another six inches or so.
"Getting angry will only make it worse," Sara chides you. She takes you by the hand. "Come on. I want to show you something."
"Do I really have a choice?" you reply, as you do as your told, trying to keep up with your younger sister's longer strides. She goes upstairs... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
