Chapter #6

The Mousegirl and the Gun

    by: irven Author IconMail Icon
You walk quickly through the empty halls of the school, rushing to get home. You've already spent longer here than you'd wanted to, since you hadn't expected there to be such a long line to speak with the teacher you needed to talk with about your grades. By the time you got up to her and finished your discussion, it was already way later than you'd hoped it would be, so now you're hurrying through the halls long after the last class of the day has ended, worrying about how you'll have time to finish your truckload of homework now.

As you pass by one of the classrooms, you notice movement inside through the door's window. Strange; there shouldn't be anyone in class still. You wonder if it's just a teacher finishing up some stuff before heading home, and for some reason, you're very interested in knowing what's going on in there.

You walk over and look through the window, and to your surprise, see a short mousegirl with shaggy brown hair, freckles, and buck teeth tinkering with some sort of gun-shaped device. Your eyes widen as you examine the device, and note how much it looks like a weapon. Is this girl making a gun to blow up the school or something? As cool as that sounds, you don't fully like the concept, and, despite your better judgement, you decide you should step in and see what's going on. Best case scenario, she's actually making a gun and you save everyone in the school. Worst case, she's not making a gun and you just end up embarrassing yourself slightly.

And so, not entirely sure why you're deciding to act like the hero, you throw open the door and enter the classroom. The mousegirl literally jumps form her seat, quickly reaching down and picking up the gun after she recovers from the initial shock. You freeze--she's aiming it right at you.

"Uh... please don't shoot me," you begin.

"What are you doing here?" the mousegirl stammers in her high-pitched and squeaky voice. "I thought this wing of the school would be empty for a while!"

"Well, it's not. What's with the gun? You planning to shoot some people? Blow up the school? Huh?"

The mousegirl starts the shake, and her grip on the gun seems unsteady now. "N-no, I'm not... please, just leave! I was really hoping to keep this a secret..."

"Oh, it's got to be bad if it's a secret."

"No, it's not bad, honest! Just... Just leave, alright? Don't make me use it on you!"

That makes you stop and think. If this is actually a weapon, it's probably a good idea to run and get some help from the police, or someone who could handle this situation better than just an ordinary student like you. However, there's definitely something up with the mousegirl and her gun-thing, and you're not sure about leaving her alone, especially if you're not sure just what the gun is and what it can do. Right about now, you're wishing you hadn't foolishly rushed in here, but hey, you're here now, and you have to choose.

So, what do you do? Run and get help, or stay and handle this yourself?
