You probably should think this through better than you do, but you throw open the window, take a running start, and dive through. Douglas Adams's advice in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for how to fly was to "throw yourself at the ground, and miss," and you do pretty much that: you fall, you look towards the rapidly approaching ground, you flap your arms like an idiot, and your fall slows, then reverses. In case anyone saw you, you quickly flap yourself over to the other side of the building. Hopefully they won't believe their own eyes.
After flying around for a bit, you confirm your earlier suspicions. You absolutely can accelerate, and once you do you discover you need very little effort to keep propelling yourself forward. You decide to alight on the top of a tall tree, and realize upon your approach that you have no idea how to stop. So you crash into the tree like an idiot, but you suffer only a few scrapes and bruises. Eventually you figure it out through some more experimentation, and then you decide to find out how fast you can go.
The short answer is you top out at the point where it hurts your face to keep going. It's got to be at least a couple hundred miles an hour. You should bring a helmet next time. In any event, you've now made the half-hour commute into the city in about three minutes.
You're amazed with the accomplishment, and you start to wonder what you should do for an encore. The first thing you imagine, of course, is spying on someone. You could fly up to the outside of any apartment building in the city and have your pick of beautiful women to ogle voyeuristically. You could also just fly away from here, and find some beautiful location or a place you've never been. You would love to fly through the clouds or to go up a waterfall. Of course, if you do that you'll have to wait until morning so you can figure out where you're going.
While ruminating up in the air, you notice several police sirens wailing off in the distance. They haven't discovered the guy flying around like a madman. Right?
