This choice: The report omits the gun, and you're free to do what you want • Go Back...Chapter #5Mrs. O'Brien, your friend's hot mom by: rockstatic You're not sure at first what you really want to do with the gun. You don't want to do anything too crazy, since you can just imagine the destruction a giantess would cause, or the terror of living in a giant world as a shrunken man. As you did the previous night, you mostly use the gun to make everyday tasks easier. At first you shrink the couch in your room so it's easier to vacuum under it, and then you make the vacuum run itself. You could get used to this.
A few days later you find yourself back in your hometown. Your family moved out years ago, but you always like to go back whenever you're feeling pensive or nostalgic. You also like going back in hopes of seeing Mrs. O'Brien, your next-door-neighbor Shawn's hot mom. You've had a thing for her as long as you can remember, but that's just one of those harmless youthful attractions that's never going to happen: she's much older than you, she's married, and she's your friend's mom.
You don't expect to see anyone when you drive through the old neighborhood. Shawn's long since moved out, Mr. O'Brien works during the day, and Mrs. O'Brien does too. Or so you thought: you actually see her as you drive by. Part of you wants to just drive by, but come on, you didn't drive all the way here for nothing. You pull up beside her, trying to seem confident. "Hey, uh, Carol."
"Oh my gosh!" she says, obviously delighted to see you. "I haven't seen you in years! What are you doing?"
"Oh, just felt like swinging by the old neighborhood," you reply. "Funny to see you here. I thought you worked during the day?"
"School's on vacation," she answers. Oh, right, she's a schoolteacher. "So what are you up to these days?"
"Not much," you lie. "I'm in school, interning at a science lab. It's not bad." It also gave you more power than any human being alive, but you don't mention that.
She pauses. "Hey, why don't you come in so we can catch up?" she says. "I'll make you a coffee."
"Sure," you say, trying not to sound too eager as you shut off the car and follow her inside. She's really kept up her looks, even though she must be in her mid-40s by now. You smile at how this has worked out.
As you walk inside, you start to wonder what she meant by "come in so we can catch up," but it turns out she really did want to get coffee and talk. That said, you have a much more compelling conversation than you expected. She talks about getting her life back now that she has an empty nest, and you talk about the ups and downs of the transition to adulthood.
You think there's a real connection there. You never expected any of this to happen, but she looks you in the eyes. "It's funny," she says. "I never thought of you as a grown-up before, but you've made quite a man of yourself." | Members who added to this interactive story also contributed to these: |
