This choice: nothing.. Wait! What's that!? • Go Back... As I strode into the classified lab, I pictured the place looking like Frankenstein's lair, with tubes and smoking electronics scattered across the room and great massive computer banks performing calculations as chemicals were pumped through massive pipes towards some nefarious secret project. Needless to say I was a little disappointed when the room turned out to be completely bare.
"The hell?" I said aloud, wondering if I got the wrong room. Before I could leave to double check the number though, there was a soft thwip sound and it felt like a bug bit me. I slapped something small and feathered on my neck and wondered what it was ooh the room is spinning I'm gonna take a nap now nite nite mommy...
---
"...should be wearing off any moment now."
I let out a groan as my head throbbing woke me up. Shaking the sleep out of my eyes, I remembered something hitting me and instantly I began to panic. Something drugged me and knocked me out, I was being kidnapped! I leapt out of the chair I was propped up in, preparing to fight for my life, but someone touched me gently on the shoulder.
"Don't worry" the voice I vaguely heard as I woke up said soothingly. "You were just hit with a knockout dart, you'll make a full recovery. Take a moment to collect yourself."
I wanted to shout and run away of course, but as my legs wobbled beneath me I felt it was best to take the voice's advice. Collapsing back into the chair, I found myself in front of a jet black desk, made to look like something more modern and even futuristic. The room itself was unusually sparse, not having any furniture or other decorations, and it seemed to be dome-shaped with a weirdly soothing black and blue grid design on the walls.
"Where are we?" I asked immediately.
"Somewhere secret," the voice said, the speaker coming around from behind me to sit in front of the desk. I should have picked it up from the tinny sound of their voice, but I was still surprised to see the speaker clad in some sort of full-body suit, blue and black to match the colors of the walls, their identity hidden by a helmet built into the suit with a black, opaque glass face mask. "You won't need to be tranquilized every time you come here, just the first day on the job. There's a degree of secrecy involved at this level, naturally..."
"Secrecy of what?" I asked, almost demanding an answer from this strange faceless person. "You didn't need to shoot me with a dart, I'm not gonna run off and blab about anything secret!"
"Honestly, I believe you Conrad. But that's how things operate around here, so..." the person in the strange suit said with an indifferent shrug.
"Where even IS here?" I asked. "This doesn't look like the lab at all."
"Perhaps this can answer a few of your questions..." the suited person pondered. Reaching up to around their neck, they fiddled around with some hatch before the helmet let out a depressurized hiss, and removed the helmet entirely to reveal... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
