Suddenly, before you have the chance to go to your room, Amber's phone rings in her denim miniskirt. It's on vibrate, which sends a strange sensation that you immediately feel. Reaching into your pocket, you pull out Amber's pink iPhone. The caller ID says Ellee... Ellee! ELLEE??!
"Oh my god, it's Ellee!" You exclaim. "Ahh, what do I do? It's Ellee! I'll answer the phone, yeah, that''s it!" You fumble with the phone in your sister's petite hands, nearly dropping it on the ground. You press the right button, after a few rings, and begin:
"Hello? Ellee are you there?"
"Yes I am! Soooo, how is your evening going so far, my best friend Amber?"
"Uhh, it's going fine-- fine, Ellee..."
"I wanna talk about earlier today, during math. You remember what happened, right?"
"No, actually. I haven't been feeling quite myself lately." You say, but you fake a cough and add quickly, "I think I'm coming down with something."
Elle doesn't seem to notice and goes on: "Oh, you silly girl, I mean Eric. Did you SEE the way he was staring at you today? Total crush. You should talk to him tomorrow."
Eric? Who the hell cares about where this conversation is going? You don't!
Deciding to steer the discussion somewhere a little more productive (for you, at least), you say, "Hey Ellee, do you want to know something? I think that Mike-- you know, my brother-- is a great guy. This morning before school he made me breakfast and said that me and Ember are the greatest sisters he could ask for. Isn't that great?" It was a lie, of course, but Ellee didn't know that.
"Yeah, your brother sounds like a really sweet guy." Ellee agrees. Jackpot!
"Oh, thank you-- I mean, thanks for complimenting him. My brother Mike. Hehe..." You nervously stumble over your words while talking to your crush.
You and Ellee continued talking for another 5 or 10 minutes. Whenever Ellee brought up a subject from school, or something else you weren't confident talking about, you tried to make it a segue into topics you could speak more intelligibly about, without compromising Amber's personality.
"Are you feeling... alright, Amber?" Ellee asked.
"Uh yeah, I'm fine! Why?"
"I never knew you appreciated Mike so much."
"Well yeah, he's awesome. You should talk to him more often!"
"Hmm. I guess I will then!" Ellee says, although you're not entirely sure whether she was just playing along with you or not. "Bye bye girlfriend!"
"Bye Ellee..." You say softly, and press 'end' on the cell phone. You notice that your heart rate had increased during the phone call, and that you find yourself sitting in a chair on the back porch. You put the phone in your pocket and look up... to see Amber grinning at you from the back window!
Amber, in mom's body, put one hand on her forehead and pretended to swoon. "Romeo, oh Romeo, wherefore art thou?"
"Haha sis, very funny." You chuckle. You feel your face redden and blush. "Don't you have dinner to make?"
"It's done loverboy... or should I say-- lovergirl!" She jokes. "Come on in, I promise it's edible!"
You get up from the chair, feeling a slipperiness between your legs that feels more than strange. Ignoring it, you walk into the house and get seated for dinner.
