The snake makes no attempt to strike you as you approach it. There is no need to kill the creature you think. After all, if you went around killing things without them attacking you first, well, then you what kind of hero would you be? Carefully you use your sword to push the snake off the bridge, out of your way, and onto solid ground. Immediately it slithers away into some nearby bushes, and you resheath your sword.
As the sound of leaves rustling as the slender body of the snake travels through their resting place and moves on, you continue on your way. Best not to waste any time; there is no telling the amount of havoc Villian could wreak if you do not reach him soon.
With the sun high in the sky and mercilessly beating down on you, you hope for some shade and a place to rest your feet. You pull the gourd from your waist and sip the cool water. However, as you retie it to your belt you notice a slight movement in the tall grass a short distance down the road. This area is often filled with animals. Perhaps another snake. I wouldn't be surprised you muse as you choose to ignore the disturbance and carry on with your quest.
When you see movement again, this time accompanied with an unusual sound, you're not so sure a simple snake or rabbit or bird could be responsible.
