As Shinji stood on the colossal hand of the albino boy, he saw confusion and doubt in his big red eyes. Kaworu had been the only one to show him love and caring without an alternate agenda to play out. He had shown unbridled love for Shinji and taken him out of a spiral of depression and loneliness. When Shinji’s life had seemed its bleakest and he had lost all hope for having a happy future, Kaworu had come to him like a guardian angel. In the brief day that they have met, a connection was forged between the two that has stayed sturdy through the reveling of Kaworu’s true identity. It wasn’t a sexual attraction, but something deeper that went beyond gender. In the simplest of terms, Kaworu made him happy. What ever was upsetting him was of the gravest concern to Shinji right now.
“What’s wrong?” His question broke the blank stare that Kaworu was giving and he directed his big red eyes to Shinji in his palm. A warm smile formed on his bus-sized face and Shinji felt some of his anxiety wash away.
“Are my emotions that open to you Mr. Ikari?” He asked while tilting his head slightly to the left in a very bird like fashion.
“I thought I told you not to call me that,” Shinji mumbled embarrassedly. It made him feel so small when his last name was used like that, but then again how much smaller could a guy get when you are the size of a pea in the other guys hand.
“I know you told me, but you looks cute when you blush like that,” Kaworu remarked, Shinji put a hand on his cheek and felt how hot it was, he had been blushing and he didn’t even know it. His blush intensified when he realized this.
“See you’re blushing even more,” Kaworu giggled as he pointed his other hand at Shinji. Shinji laughed too, forgetting that anything was ever wrong. His laughter died in an instant, when he realized what Kaworu was doing.
“Kaworu why are you trying to distract me from my question?” Shinji asked with a bit of ire in his voice, he didn’t like being tricked by anyone, even Kaworu.
“Shinji, will you make a promise for me?” Was all that Kaworu had to say. Shinji nodded his head dumbly, if asked to give his word to the giant boy was all he asked then Shinji would gladly comply.
“I have betrayed powerful Lilums and earned their wrath. They will come to destroy me and take Adam for their own purposes. I am not immortal and the enemy has much power. You must swear that if I fall you will…” Kaworu was never able to finish his sentence because Shinji’s scream stopped him.
“NOOOOO!” he screamed until he was red in the face.
“I’m not going to let you die like that. You are too kind and gentle for me to just run away from. I’d rather die then be a coward any longer!” His words were spoken with heat and his voice echoed all around the chamber. To Shinji’s words, Kaworu just smiled sadly.
“But you must live on, if you don’t then what would are meeting mean? Someone must live on to see the future and isn’t it right for it to be you? Promise me that you will run if I fall, not because you are a coward, but to keep me alive inside your heart.” Shinji didn’t know what to say after that, all he could do was look at the giant face of Kaworu and give his answer.
