The novel says the etchings on the key are in Ogham, but in this illustration they are in Staveless Hälsinge Futhark on the haft and Short-twig Futhark on the shaft. Both engravings in this illustration are modern English words written using the runic alphabets. The haft reads "timekeepers" and the shaft reads "mysterious." Of course, they have a different message in the story.
