A journey.
Today my husband and I went hiking first we walk out of our yard. The grass is usually pretty well trimmed scattered with dandelions and purple flowers. Then we make it to the road and make sure no cars are coming our direction. Because obviously we don't want to be human road kill. Once we have made sure the coast is clear we head down the side walk on the left of the street because its a quicker route. As we were walking today dogs barked and howled in neighbors yards and the birds began to sing.
Storm clouds began to pervade the sky. We watch for cracks and pebbles in the sidewalk as we turn the corner. There is a large wired fence laced with flowers. As the storm began to brew faster the trees and flowers swayed in the hot breeze. Luckily it wasn't humid. Humid weather for me is the worst type of weather because it tends to make me feel queezy. As we walked passed the lilac bushes and bird houses in the alley way we head down to the bike trail. The bike trail has a few lamp posts and there are woods all the way through. So you have to be careful in case any deer or animals come running out. As I walk with my husband I can see the occasional caterpillar travelling along the trail as well. Cardinals sit in the trees.
We walk past the archery field that leads to the town park. Suddenly a family peddles by on their bikes. A little girl waves hello to me even though she doesn't know me. Some more people. We walk past some teenagers. Who don't seem to be aware that a storm is brewing. Next we come to the creek. The ripples seem to be whispering warning signs of the storm. Such a soothing relaxing sound as the water caresses the pebbles in the creek. "Lets head back home." Suddenly we see a brief distant flash of lightening. "Yeah I'm with you on that lets go. " We hurry back through the bike trail and watch as the trees sway gently but quickly in the hot breeze.
"It's really picking up out here." He says getting nervous. We finally make it to the end of the trail and head back to the side walk. Suddenly thunder rumbles. We walk past the pine trees and dusty brown picket fences that are lined with bird houses. Another flash of lightening to ensure that we are aware of the danger ahead. We walk faster then normal and finally make it to our yard. It begins to rain. We head into the house. Air conditioning greets us as we enter the door. "I'm glad we made it home just in time." "Me too..." "Lets go hiking again tomorrow." We watch the storm hit, and feel satisfied.
