EASILY LEAD..????? Jake the son of Layton and Gabriel was a young but mischievous fellow each day he was in trouble for some reason or another he was the kind which was easily lead and always up for a laugh even thou it wast legal he was at that age a teenager (14) As if he didn't listen to his father or mother he,d been expelled from school twice in a year and in trouble with the law a few odd occasions but nothing for nick able offences stuff like loitering and being in one place at the wrong time and graffiti the pier side it wasn't like there was nothing to do in town he just couldn't be bothered with it there was youth clubs, karate classes, pool clubs, swimming etc. but nothing like that ever took his fancy His home work never got done no matter how his teachers and parents were on at him to complete it he rather play football with his mates than that "gee " he,d say "I have to do everything in here I thought that what parents were for cleaning and making beds" his mother gave him such a look clipped him behind his ear and went down stairs. he shouted "I hate you" at the top of his voice his mother just blanked him then he shouted again "I HATEE YOU" his dad walked up the stairs and told him "your grounded for a week" with that Jake slammed his bedroom door and blasted music from his stereo . not the kind parents listen too well most parents anyway. his parents didn't work as dad was always told he was too old to work at 48 jobs were scarce and always wanted younger people his mother had a disability that stopped her working that morning Jake packed his bags with his books ready for school he had sports so he didn't mind going to school as he played football his sports teacher thought he was very talented but he told him he had to work harder at other lessons before he could get a scholarship Jake sat and thought about how he could earn his scholarship for football his mates came up and asked if he wanted to skip school and hit the mall “sure” he said forgetting everything his teacher just told him they attacked the mall with killer instincts to cause trouble using there skateboards to go up and down escalators and bumping people out the way as they do skateboarding in and out of shops grabbing clothes of rails and throwing them onto the floor causing major uproar and skating out of the mall and down the streets. The security guards tried to chase them but wasn't able to catch them. The police was called into the mall and security tapes were viewed as Jake was known to them they spotted him straight away. The police went around to his home address to inform his parents of his destruction at the local mall and that he has to face charges against him due to his age his mum called Jake down from his room and the police arrested him for criminal damage to the mall and stores he wrecked, this time he was in real trouble his mother went along to the police station where they were questioning him on his whereabouts they shown him on the CCTV tapes and he had to admit it the police told him this time wasn't a slap on the wrists he had to appear in court the mouthy lad wasn't mouthy no more he finally saw that he needed help this time could mean jail. Chapter 2.... It was the morning of the trial he was facing a year in juvenile offenders jail or a community service . The judge walked into the court room “all stand for the right honourable judge lions” the judge sat down “all be seated” was shouted from the back of the room. His case was heard from the defence and the accused side and it was the jury now to decide if he was guilty or not (obversely he is) the court was adjourned until the jury came back with the verdict. It was 2 hours later when the jury came back with there decision they said he was guilty the judge looked at Jake your punishment will be 6 months of community service and there was a plus he had to turn up in every lesson at school and earn his marks if he don't his case will be reviewed in 2 months if no change he will have to do time in juvenile. Jake wasn't at all pleased with the decision but he had to pay for what he had done. His community service was he had to work in a local youth club teaching others less off how wrong it is to commit crime and help put them on the right track and not lead them down the wrong path into jail. That night he thought long and hard about his punishment and how is so called mates never stuck up for him one bit . The very next morning Jake went to school he turned up to his first lesson which was history “glad you can make it today Jake” his teacher said. Jake just looked at his teacher and sat down his teacher was a middle aged woman quite slim long brown hair and had a temper like a wild boar on rampage sometimes “since you haven't been with us a lot this year l will send you home with homework so you can catch up “ Jake did not like that one bit. The lesson dragged a little and Jake spent most of the time stirring out of the window “ can I see you after class please Jake” his teacher said “yes miss” said Jake the lesson ended and Jake waited behind to see his teacher she told him that if he didn't want to learn she will have to see the judge and report his behaviour but Jake said he will try and come to his lesson every day”on your way then Jake you,ll be late for next lesson. Jake rushed off to his next lesson with a happy smile as it was football his coach had strict rules for him until he takes notice and studies he has to sit on the bench in football this was more upsetting for the coach as well as Jake as he was there star player. The day seemed so long after than and Jake turned up in every lesson and started to take notice this time I think it hit him not being able to play football was like taking his legs away form him and he had to take notice and learn. It wasn't long before his mates got hold of him and asked him if he wanted to go to town and cause trouble he told them that he's in enough trouble and they should change and stop doing what they are doing. His mates laughed at him asking him if he become chicken they hounded him he said that where was they when he got caught and taken to court “I thought mates were meant to stick together and pay for the crime together instead of letting him take the rap. His mates just laughed and rode of on their bikes calling him chicken. Jake knew then that they wasn't his mates they were just using him and he was left to pay for their crimes too which wasn't fair. After lunch Jake decided to knuckle down in his next lesson which was maths where he was too far behind he was put in the bottom group he had homework for maths too guess this was they way for every lesson he had that week. The day dragged but was soon the school end and he headed home to do his home work. Chapter 3 the youth club. The time was coming on to 5pm and Jake had to be at the youth club which was across town his mum took him by car. The club was in a old church run by volunteers in their spare time he walked in to the club and told them his name and what he was their for they said they were expecting him and his first job was too help set out the tables and pool tables for the kids the children what came too the club was from disadvantage homes and some were they as their parents worked and it was somewhere to go after school instead of being at home alone. Jake got to helping set out the tables and drinks and snacks for the children as he was helping he felt disgusted at himself as they were kids with less than him here and they wasn't going around vandalizing everything. 6pm the kids came into the club paid their 2£ entry fee and went to play the entry fee paid For the drinks and snacks they got and helped towards new equipment for the club he soon got on with the new kids he meet and helped by talking to some of them he played table football with some of them and he talked about how he loves football and playing the game he couldn't believe that the kids showed interest in what he had to say. No one had stopped and listened to what he had to say before and it was all too shocking for Jake that these kids wanted to hear it. (Jakes home life hasn't always been good to him he was to learn and come home go to his room and help his other brothers and sisters out but his parents never had the time to really talk to him and being bad was they only way he got their attention) after the kids mothers picked them up Jake helped pack all the stuff up for another day cleaned the floor and wiped down tables. They were still a little while before his mum had to come and pick him up he sat and talked to the play leader on how he was surprised how the children actually listened to him the club leader sat and asked him about his home life and what his plans were for the future they sat talking for about an hour the leader asked if he told his mum his thoughts maybe he can on the way home from the club tonight Jake thought that was a good idea he then went on to talk about football his much loved sport and how he longed to play for a well known team one day the club leader told him if he put his mind to it and did his school work maybe just maybe his wish would be granted and he could become this star football player hes always wanted to be. Before long his mum had returned to pick him up she said they had to hurry as dad was cooking and they had to be home soon so Jake grabbed his jacket and said see you tomorrow to the club leader “don't forget what I said” said the leader “I wont “ said Jake and left the club his mum was in a hurry to get home so she told him to hurry and fasten up and started the car and drove off. Jake tried his best to get his mums attention on the way home but she was just not listening no matter how he tried all she said was later tell me later as if she just didn't care. As soon as he got home he was told to go get changed ready for dinner and wash his hands ( he thought to himself that he was getting treated like a child and not the man he like to be treated) he came down and sat at the dinner table and his dad served dinner all though dinner was quite and no one asked him how things went just his mum after he had eaten told him to wash up the dishes then go do his homework as soon as he's done that its bed. Jake staggered up the stairs feeling low and sat on his bed and thought about all the kids in the club today and how he could speak to them and they would listen he settled down to do his homework time was ticking by and soon it was 9pm his dad came into his room and told him to go to sleep now and switched off the bedroom light. ( no wonder why he was the way he was its because no one wanted to listen to him it was always him what did the listening and doing never did his parents ask how was his day?? or how he was feeling ) he settled down to sleep he could hear his parents argue about money and how times and things were getting too much his mum was calling his dad lazy good for nothing he should get up of his lazy backside and find a job. Then it went quite the front door slammed and the car skidded away from the drive he could hear his mum cry he knew his dad had walked out like on many occasions he normally come back with in the hour to silence and a blanket put out on the sofa it wasn't like his dad didn't want to work it was just that they were no work what with the rescission and all. Next thing Jake knew was his alarm going off time for school he packed his bag with his school books and his homework he did the night before his dad had slept on the sofa like normal when they have had a argument his mum had done his packed lunch and left it on the kitchen side for him next to his breakfast he ate his breakfast put his packed lunch into his bag and left for school his so called mates were passing by still laughing and calling him names but Jake pushed by all that and carried on to school he knew if he just ignored his ex mates they would stop eventually and leave him alone that day at school was OK he enjoyed science and drama even tried his maths class and studied pretty well and he really enjoyed a whole day at school and made some pretty neat new friends he walked home happily and excited as was his second day at the club he rushed in and got changed and done his home work his mum shouted up that she was ready to take him to club he rushed down stairs and grabbed his jacket and sat in the car again he tried chatting to his mum but with no avail which made him sad as she never wants to listen to his feelings and what he had to say or what he wanted to do. He arrived and the club and strolled in the club leader knew that his parents didn't listen to him again and gave him a pat on the head and a hand to set out the club before the kids got there they talked for a while and the club leader (victor) told him to go to the school and ask them if they could put him onto a family council er who could help and get his parents attention the kids came and played and talked with Jake they told him jokes and storeys and played games he helped give out drinks and snacks and even coach the young boys on how to play football in the church yard he was so happy their he had friends who were truly friends and not just using him for crimes soon the children went home and Jake helped clean the club up and put things away and wash the cups and plates up victor gave him his number and said whenever you need to chat to ring him. (victor a religious man a father of 2 boys and a hard working man and great family man) rustled Jakes head and told him to get in touch with the head of his school and ask for help Jake smiled and said I will he got into his mums car and the drive home was again silent not one word of how was your day hows it going etc. he went in and sat down to dinner as normal it was bucket night chicken and chips his sisters and brothers all grabbed what they could Jake took all he wanted and ate it all then as normal washed up and went to do his home work it was like he didn't exist his other brother and sisters were younger than him they were like little demons and horrors to him always spying on him running in and out of his bedroom causing havoc the next eldest was ten a ginger haired girl who had a scream on her that you could hear from the next city then a 6 year old acted like butter wouldn't melt in her mouth when with her parents but when out of there site she was hell to be with then you had Jakes younger brother Michael a 4 year old who just wanted everything he saw and normally got it to contain a quite life last but not least a 1 year old boy named peter just cried a lot most of the time the others had their parents full attention when and if they needed it but Jake was just pushed aside like he wasn't special any more most days it was just like he didn't exist just ignored day after day he settled down to sleep …. the next day the alarm went off and he awoke to the radio he went down stairs to grab his breakfast and his packed lunch his mum was in a happy mood and there was no sign of his dad the ginger haired girl Becky said dads got a job shouting it out so the whole street could hear Jake just smiled put his lunch into his bag and left for school as normal he got too school and went straight to see his head teacher who was pleased to see him and congratulated him on his progress Jake explained what was happening at home and his head teacher listened with shock he gave him the name of the person to go see and the head teacher also booked an appointment for his parents to come see him at school the next day, Jake went to his lessons happy school and club was the only places that he fitted in now his teachers were saying how impressed they was and great he was studying his football coach said he no longer had to sit on the bench he could play that made his day the day soon went pass pretty quick and he was sad it was over and had to return home he gave the appointment to his mother and all she said was what you done this time cant you just act your age but before he could say anything she said up to your room now and don't come out until club or dinner time he went upstairs so unhappy he was getting told off for nothing again the drive to the club was silent he walked in with a slump and sat down on the chair in the club victor told him that he was OK to stay there for a while and if he felt like talking to come chat victor went about setting up the club for the evening and fixing the snacks and drinks for the children when they arrive they soon arrived and wanted Jake to talk to them and play football even thou he was sad he talked and played with the kids helping some to read and write and others he was talking about how its great to learn in school he was sad when they went home and victor asked if he wanted to talk to him about what happened today they sat talking and Jake told how his mum just thought the meeting was bad news and grounded him and never listened to his explanation victor said it was time he acted and had a few words with his mother . So when his mother came to pick him up instead of Jake waiting outside a patient victor was he told her he needed a word with her and wasn't going to take no for an answer even if it made her late for her dinner victor explained how much Jake was getting pushed out and ignored and how she was blanking him like she was trying to blank victor he asked if she ever spent one hour chatting to him or ever asked him how he felt or what was up that day her excuse was she's busy hasn't got time to sit and listen to a child that brought nothing but shame to her family victor was shocked to hear and then confronted her with a few home truths ( if she took time to stop and listen and asked him maybe he wouldn't of brought so much trouble and maybe she would understand how he was feeling and what was going on then he went on to say about the appointment tomorrow and what it was for and that she had grounded her son for no reason at all. Her face dropped she told victor she didn't like getting treated like she was in primary school and spoken to in that tone he was speaking to her victor then said now you know what it feels like to be Jake he's a grown up not a baby. With that she told Jake to hurry as she was leaving and she slammed the club door as hard as she could she muttered to herself iv e never been talk en to that way in my life and she don't want to be talk en to like that again and as normal she blamed Jake for it all. chapter 4 the councillor both the mother and father turned up at the school office still bickering as normal “never a day goes by without him being in trouble” said the mum the dad just looked dumb the counsellor called them into the room the room was like any school head room a small desk and a couple of filling cabinets to the side the window facing the school playing fields please sit said the councillor they both sat down on the two small chairs before the councillor could utter another word the mother said OK what's he done this time “if you let me explain” said the councillor I will tell you the mother shut up for the first time in her life she was quite OK now for a start its nothing that Jakes done actually he's improving in school its you two that's done wrong the parents looked at each other as if to say us?? “what do you mean “ said the father ?? I mean for a start do you ever listen to your son?? do you really know him for what he is and what he can achieve the parents sat there and just shook their heads in disappointment your son Jake has asked me to tell you that he needs you to understand him pay attention to him and the most of all love him stop pushing him away the parents explained that they are always busy and time wasn't on their side with the younger ones their life was taken over the councillor listened to their story and explained they was a group the family could go to which could offer support and friendship as well as advice for them to not ignore Jake any more and how they could find the time to be with him a little in the evenings they agreed to give it a try and see how they got on the councillor made a appointment for that night for them both to attend again they tried to make excuses but the councillor said he didn't want to hear them they agreed they would attend and left the office that night Jake went to the club as normal and the parents went to see this group they was greeted warmly and given a cup of tea or coffee they found out they wasn't alone they was others that were in the same position as they were and that they was not bad parents just lost ones and the group would help them overcome things and all their parenting skills would be questioned on how and where they was going wrong victor drove Jake home as the parents were going to be late home from the meeting he brought him some dinner and took him home Jake went straight to his room and got on with his homework. Later on he heard his parents come home they shouted him to come down as they wanted to talk to him he thought he was in so much trouble when he got downstairs he was surprised to see just his parents sat at the table and not the others climbing all over it the parents said how sorry they were that they never meant to ignore there son and that they now know what he did was only to get their attention and they was no longer mad at him he looked as if to see if he was dreaming but he wasn't his parents were truly sorry and agreed to put the others to bed early and try and spend at least an hour with him each night. His mum held her hands out for him to hug they hugged and kissed him and told him they will try listen to him and if he wanted their attention he didn't have to be bad no more as weeks went past Jake was studied harder than ever and was always happy to come home one day at school a manager came to look for a young star he watched how Jake played and was pleased with him and offered him his scholarship to play in the junior football squad that evening he ran home and told his parents the good news they were so please how he turned himself around that night at the club he told victor how he was offered the scholarship and he was so delighted at the news and told sake didn't I say if you studied hard and not get into trouble your dreams may be answered. Jake continued to work hard and even after the 6 moths continued to work at the youth club and he went on to become a semi pro footballer. The end with the right motivation and a little love from family anything is possible if you really want it enough............................................... |
