This storyline was the surprise winner in a poll, and I'd had no special ideas for it when I set up the choice. When I wrote "Ambush at the Donna" , the choice at the end was simply a logical branching-off point. So when it came time to take the alternate, I had no plan and had to feel my way through it.
This branch is not the only place that Will has impersonated David Kirkham, but it seemed to me this would be a more meaningful impersonation, given what's been going on between them in this branch, and because Will also has to balance Kirkham's personality and his own when dealing with Sydney. So it seemed like it needed a more step-by-step progression, showing Will making the choice and figuring out how to handle Kirkham.
And then getting a little drunk on the power and screwing things up. Because he has to screw things up, of course—that's what makes things interesting.
These chapters did not get as far along as I would like, because the really interesting question (What is the difference between Will running Kirkham and Sydney running Kirkham) has to wait until Sydney has a new identity, and I wanted to give people a chance to vote on what her new identity should be.
