I actually tend not to listen to music while writing for the most part as it's just distracting. But I listen to a lot of stuff outside of that time and I always try to think of the feeling or mood a certain song gives me and I'm a big proponent of the idea of a good score or soundtrack being important in helping with mood so I at least have it in my head a lot.
For the most part I'm willing to try a lot of stuff out so my tastes are eclectic and I love a lot of stuff from classical to old country music to genres like grunge or shoegaze to older hip-hop to bubbly Japanese idol music and whatever else that catches my interest and there's been times where a song I've heard has inspired me, simply through the way it sounds and the mindset it puts me in, to at least jot down a story idea based on that feeling.
