One major problem I have with the "old way" is that it doesn't mention the book or the sigil, and for a very long time now it has been canon that you need the sigils in order to execute the spells. Here's another problem. In lots of branches it is written (or assumed) that people make up batches of the "golem paste" and carry it around in plastic containers, which they can then dip into in order to seal up a mask with a golem shell. But if the spell is written so as to only golemize one mask at a time, and particularly if it is written so as to imply that you are "golemizing a mask" rather than "making stuff that will let you golemize a mask" then it become hard for the characters to make the leap from "golemizing one mask" to "making stuff that can be applied to lots of masks, and which can be stored and transported around." At the very least, it's the kind of leap that would have to be articulated and written on the page every time it happens. So if you've been writing BoM chapters, and you've been writing it the old way, how have you been transitioning to scenes of Will (or someone) carrying around a plastic container of golemizing goop? |
