Quick, public consultation among authors and long-time, active readers. The appendix in BoM states of the seventh spell: "The spell requires a mind-body mask that has received a golem-like treatment: a spoonful of graveyard dirt, a hank of the magician's hair, and fuel are put inside the mask and set alight. The fire is brief, and when it is done the inside of the mask is the color and texture of golem skin. When placed on a person, that person takes on the form and persona of the original who is recorded in the mask, but acts just like a golem would, being entirely obedient to the magician. The mask is removable, and the underlying person will reappear, but with no memory of what had transpired." I wince to see that that description is now ten years old, BTW. Where does the time go? The worse problem is that in my own imagination, at least, it has been almost ten years since that was an accurate description. In everything I have written in the last few years, the preparation is completely different. It involves mixing dirt and hair and fuel and other ingredients into a bowl, setting it afire atop the sigil, then using a brush to coat the resulting paste into a mask. So am I the only author who has changed procedures here? I had the impression that other authors were following my lead, but apparently not, e.g., "Just Vee Yourself" . Is it common to see that old method employed? |
