A support forum for writers dealing with mental illness |
Absolutely! Music can be so damn depressing! You know, I think people write music that they're feeling and many celebrities are dealing with anger, depression and drug abuse. Also, they write what they feel society relates to and America is friggen angry! People know anger. They understand that. They blast that when their boss pisses them the hell off. Not everyone can sit around and get into calming meditative music about nature or serene tunes. There's days when I may NEED to cry and I'll purposely put on sad music and let myself loose. If I'm having a day where I miss my deceased mom and I'm alone... Sometimes I know it's BETTER for my mental health to put on depressing music relating to missing a loved one who's gone and let myself cry and grieve. For years and years I held it in and didn't grieve and it pushed me further and further into depression and drug abuse. Now, it's almost like I HAVE to let myself cry hysterically to be mentally right afterwards. And it's not like this happens often... Maybe once every few months maybe once or twice a year but it helps. But thats a case where I feel it's used in a healthy way. There are people out there especially teens and younger people that listen nonstop to negative music and I truly feel like it begins to shape and form the youth. They almost get brainwashed into whatever the media is feeding them. It's sickening. If I find my fiance playing certain music or videos for my toddler I flip out on him. I'm like Jack, what are you feeding our child! He's just absorbing and eating up everything you're showing him. Taking it as facts, as gold. He doesn't see it that way. But I do. Children are sponges. They're curious and they take in all that they can and at his age... He becomes a parrot, repeating and acting out everything he hears and sees. ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** |
