Noticing Newbies

I felt pretty far off from publishing even a few years ago, myself. But I've also been working on novels since early 2004, when I was 14. Was it difficult? Well, it depends on which part you're talking about. Writing a book is a lot of work. Then, you have to edit it (or hire an editor). Format the book (or hire a formatter). And find a cover artist who is going to make your book really look professional. But honestly, from what I can tell, the process of self-publishing is way easier than it used to be. Formatting wasn't fun, but there are guides to help you through it, so it's not as frustrating as it may seem either. And just publishing something is so easy now. If you go the ebook route, you don't even have to invest any money into printing. Sites will host the book for you and only take money when you have sales.

Fantasy has always been my thing. But I find myself coming up with more realistic fiction ideas these days than I used to. Who knows when I'll get to any of that stuff (I'm already working on 3 novels and one novella), but I think it's because I also read more realistic YA than I used to. I absolutely love Sarah Dessen. And Meg Cabot does both fantasy and realistic well. She's how I started branching out, originally.

I've started reading your story, but I want to ask you, since it seems you're English, if perhaps you might be willing to help me with my next book? It takes place in England (based lightly off of Peter Pan). I just need help making sure I'm keeping everything sounding authentic. No matter how many books, shows, and movies you've enjoyed, it's not the same as having a person who really lives there. I would, of course, be willing to give you opinions on your story in exchange. But even if you're not interested, I'll read through what you have so far, no worries!
