It was only a matter of time before he found her. He had searched in all the usual places--under the bed, behind the doors, in the window seat, behind the piano. The apartment was just not that big. He was going to find her soon. Preferably before Mama found her. That would be awkward.
He peered in the bathroom. Nothing. He sat and thought for a moment. Where would she go? Maybe . . . he headed to the kitchen. That was the warmest room in the house, and he knew that she loved the warm. Not in front of the oven. He peered around. There she was. On top of the refrigerator.
He stood there, his hands on his hips. "Come down, right this minute. You know Mama's going to freak."
The snake just hissed.
